Sentech is experiencing some teething problems with some people. I had a major slowdown for about 2 weeks, but it's back to normal now. On a 128k line (R650 per month) I get an average of 10k per second, sometimes peaking at 14k per second. Sentech is no good for FPS gaming - the latency is the issu...

Kieren McCarthy, Techworld.com 09/06/2004 08:28:25 Two new vulnerabilities have been discovered in Internet Explorer which allow a complete bypass of security and provide system access to a computer, including the installation of files on someone's hard disk without their knowledge, through a singl...

Who knows, we may actually even find some intelligent life while we're doing it ! The great thing is, if we do get a signal from, lets say, 2000 light years away, we'll know :- 1. The message was sent 2000 years ago 2. At current tech, it'll only take us 50000 years to get there ! 3. Our reply will ...

PC Format is about the same price as a big block of smelly CHEESE !

Therefore, if you can eat Cheese and worship it (without worrying about false Idols or other reality pop game shows), then it stands to reason you can also buy PC Format !

Dr_Jung sounds like a realist.

There's no way that Telkom will drop thier rates any time soon and even if they do, it will only apply to the roll-out of "new products"

It wouldn't suprise me if Telkom were lining Icasa's pockets with kick-backs.

Ahhh, the cynic in me ...

adaware - record for discovered spyware ?

A buddy of mine that is not very computer savvy asked me to look at his laptop. Basically, it stopped being able to dial out - "port not found" After a bit of quizzing, I finally got some more info out of him - he'd been visiting some dodgy sites - probably pr0n, but he didn't say. Apparen...

Sounds a bit like the fast motorbike challenge, where you go up the lift on your bike and ramp across all the buildings. You can do that with a helicopter and save a whole lot of heartache :) Buy the office building top north of the West Island. It has a police star bonus in it, 4 garages and a heli...

Well, I woulda said GTA3:Vice City, because I still crank that game up when I'm tired or wasted to rip around the city listening to MP3 files :)

I dig Far Cry maps. The player feels as a familiar id title FPS, but with a bit of an attitude. The movement and physics are very akin to Quake3 engine games - obviously. The options you have for mission plans are incredible. You wanna swim across to nearby island, and then back across to the mainla...

Graphics card, but...

bear in mind your current CPU will "bottle-neck" the graphics card quite a lot - as much as 30 to 35% (no lies)

No biggie - you can upgrade your CPU later and your vid card upgrade should outlast your current mobo and cpu.

Thought this would be the best place to seek advice. I've got a new, almost-top of the range, machine but my brother is sitting with a p1!! I was thinking of buying him a 2nd hand P3 or even P4 depending on price. What do you guys think? how risky is buying a used pc, i.e virusus, corrupt software,...

The prices vary from dealer to dealer, so there isn't really "a cheapest place" - to really get the cheapest prices is to become a hardware reseller which requires you to be in the business. Obviously not everyone can be, so your best bet is to find a reseller who sells a LOT and is able t...
