I have just finished a stage called Regulator where you begin in a hanger
The pipes have a ribbed effect which just eat my machine up

That was at 1280 x 1024
So I dropped the settings to 800 x 600 - then it was ok

But with this card - should I really have to drop the setting
I mean what did I just pay R5000 for - for a card that I have to run all games at 800 x 600 in???
Not to mention Deus Ex on full detail - what a joke
Had to drop it there as well - Game was not smooth at all

If you own this card and are having the same problem as me - please PM me...
Thanks

If it is a faulty card - then why do all the benchmarks turn out fine

Did a bench now on 3d and got 6397
Am I going mad here or what???

Guess it really doesn't matter - am returning the card in about 3 hours time for a brand new one

Will have to check then what happens
If it does happen again - what should I start looking for then???

Where can I buy Far Cry apart from take2 :?:

My local CNA and Incredible Connection store don't stock it

For what it's worth, I know that Far Cry is a nVidia "the way it's meant to be played" game so maybe that has an impact on the performance of the ATI card  I think Deus Ex 2 is the same 8O But if I paid R 5000 for a new card I would be very cross if that was the case

Im not sure how else your going to get the game...Sorry

Apart from that, I have spoken to the support team for Far Cry and it turns out that the NVIDIA Cards are not doing so well compared to the ATi Cards.

All in all, they have pushed the boundaries way too far with this game, to think you have to have the best card in order to enjoy a game and even then you can not turn it full blast.

Wondering if Doom 3 and HL2 are going to run the same,
One thing I have noticed is that the game runs smoother out side than inside, must be all the polybuming or surface reflections, which makes you wonder how NFSU ran so well..

Games, Who knows what will happen in the years to come

You said the dribver were of the cd try downloading the new ones from ATI and that might hel pbecause you said no other games had the problem except ut2004 both are new games and maybe the driver issues

one last thing

Is your far cry legal because some antipiracy degrade proformance

Well I did make mention of the fact that the driver was off the ATI site - so yes it is the new one 4.3

And no I do not support pirate software - that's what is so disappointing, to think people are so stupid to buy illegal copies and hurt the industry just makes me sick

I must say that all other games are indeed fine, so I leave it all up to the engine of the game it self, PS - played around in my settings a bit more and got UT 2004 to run 100% now..

Have any of you noticed that even though the game is supposed to have this very advanced AI, the AI still act a bit stupid, get stuck trying to move up a hill, get stuck behind trees, as well as when they see or hear you, they find you right away, I think they are a bit too alert.

As well as - how many hits does it take to put one of them down, I have noticed that some time I can empty an entire magazine on a bot and they still don't die

Very odd indeed

Yeah they do take a lot of hits to the body. Aim for the head, that puts em down quickly...

You probably find that the guys taking the most hits are the ones you can collect body armour from....

Seems strange how everyones having these problems with the game. If you've got a good net connection, try downloading the first patch for the game. Brings it to 1.1 i think. Maybe that might sort out some compatability issues.

Far Cry auto detected my graphic settings as follows:

Machine spec: Medium

Renderer: Direct3D9
Resolution: 1024x768x32
Anti Aliasing: None
Vertical Sync: Enabled
Renderer Mode: Default

Texture quality: Medium
Texture Filter quality: Trilinear
Anisotropic Filter level: 1
Particle count: Medium
Special Effects quality: Medium
Environmental quality: High
Shadow quality: Low
Water quality: Medium
Lightning quality: Medium

I've been playing the game on these settings and it runs very smoothly with only minor mouse lag indoors. But are these settings par for my machine (spec in my sig below) :?:

If I turn anything up it starts to lag very badly

I'd turn up a few settings a little higher if I were you, obviously not all of them but maybe texture quality or something else... it detected my system the same as yours and I have 2000+ XP, 512 ddr 266 RAM, Geforce 4ti 4200... it runs at about 30FPS on average...

Turn Trilinear to bilinear and push 'particle count' one setting lower to raise f/ps. Most machines are read as 'medium' so don't worry too much about it.

my word, that long... i see if i can... i just started school so i cant play any more, will not till the week end... how many of you guys thought that battle on the sinking boat was the most legend thing ever in a game?
i loved that part..

but i noticed one little thing, the story. will thats the problem, there is no story or at least a very, very, very simple one at that. the game doesnt explain anything... you just do what that guy wants you to do... i find that wierd :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

PCF reviewed Far Cry this month. Apparently they tested the game without a screen, cause a score of only 71% is simply bollocks! A revolutionary game in many aspects, I'm sure many will agree it deserves a better grade. Not that it really matters, but still. 8O
