Anybody want to share their 3DMark 03 results?

I ran it yesterday and got a full 1663 3DMarks. Am I supposed to score that badly?

I get around 9800 3DMarks on 3DMark 2001SE...

My rig isn´t the best around, but I hoped for better performance from 3DMark ´03... (I am running a 128Mb G4Ti4200, AthlonXP 1800+, 256 Mb RAM.)

In the space station battle test I averaged +/- 6 FPS!

Any other horror stories? Or is there something wrong in my setup?

3d MARk 03 is a Direct X9 benchmark ,your G4 TI is a Direct X 8.1 card hence your low score. Even on my radeon 9700 which is a direct x 9 card i get a 4632 result on a 2.4 ghz P$ with 512 ddr 400 ram.Dont worry about it though, go to toms hardware.com and read what they said about 3d mark 03

The 2 articles on Tom´s Hardware are VERY interesting...

All the parties seem to have valid points (ATI, NVIDIA and Futuremark).

I think the fact that NVIDIA only backs 3DMark scores when it suits them (ie. when they outscore ATI) isn´t very cool.

I agree with NVIDIA that 3DMark is an artificial benchmark and the best way to test GAME performance is to run GAMES (FPS tests in Q3 or UT2003)...

I also happen to agree with ATI and Futuremark that graphics cards have to support STANDARD code, not code optimised for certain cards / drivers.

Isn´t it interesting that with their shipped drivers the 9700 outscores the GFX, but with the new drivers the GFX wins?!

Otherwise you will need a GeforceFX and a ATI 9700 card depending on which company´s game you want to play (depending on for which card the the game company optimises their code)...

They should ship general code, and have patches available for download to optimise for various cards.

Yeah, what card are you running?

Sorry to say this on a PCFormat forum but in the new issue of NAG, they have a very cool test of 3D cards and they also ran 3DMark ´03 scores. The results are just very irritating to read, ´cuz they only give the card´s name in the results table and not the chip / GPU type. So you have to go back to the individual reviews to see whether it is a GF4 Ti4200 or ATI Radeon 9700 or whatever. Most cards nowadays just have a name like: GF4SuperDuper10MillionGoldenBanana with no indication of the GPU.

Also (if memory serves) there wasn´t a GeForceFX on the list... Come on PCF, give us a cool graphics card supertest!!! With GeForceFX results...

P.S. Is it just me but after I installed DirectX 9 for 3DMark ´03 (I´m running XP Pro), 3DMark 2001SE doesn´t want to run. It needs DirectX 8.1 or higher ?!?! (Some vey sloppy programming from MadOnion / Futuremark...

Get a DirectX 9 compatible card and you will get decent points in 3DMark 2003. DX9 cards include the Radeon 9700 and up, and the GeForceFX. Otherwise stick to the previous version of 3DMark for a realistic rating. Oh, and btw, installing DX9 when your card doesn´t support it will not do a damn thing.
