Your thought on the NZXT Phantom case?

Post by Slimshaedy »

Howzit guys I fell in love with this case a while back after KB posted pics up and Iv been looking at a few reviews and everyone seems to like them as well. I did notice one problem though. the top 200mm fans can only be replaced by another nzxt fan, because they are in fact 192mm so you're being forced to buy their fans. Apparently all the other fans fit,but the 2 top 200mm and the side 200/2300mm require nzxt fans. I'm not sure if these fans are stocked by anyone in SA?

I was reading around and guys say xigmatek 200mm fans also fit but those are also "exotic" to south africa... I'll probably mod it later on to include bottom fans and I'd like a window... other than that problem I love the case. What do you guys think of it?

Very nice case, just think that the glossy paint finish will be a dirt/fingerprint magnet, especially on the black case. If it had a matt finish this case would have been perfect.

The white finish on this case actually looks good. The red...can't decide if I like it.

Darn do I need a new case, currently saving for a Cooler Master elite(not sure which one) which is not the most amazing Case but some of them look pretty nice and are built well. Wow dude that case is awesome, I would go for the white one because it will collect less dust.

Good morning.

Well the PCf office has two Phantom boys in it. Brett and I have the Phantoms. He has a black one and I have a white one.

The build quality is excellent and I am really impressed. I love it! The white is sexy and I like having a case that is both sexy and fairly quiet (compared to my HAF 932).

Let me know if there are any aspects of the case that you are unsure about and I will take pics and give details on the areas of concern. You can't make an informed decision about buying this case if you don't have the information. I am lucky enough to have played with this chassis before I bought it but because I am one of a lucky few I want to help you out. In fact if you are in JHB I wouldn't mind letting you come round and actually inspect the case in person.

While NZXT make great fans I plan to swap out all the 140mm and 120mm ones with Noctua fans just ot make it even quieter. The side panel optional fan is not an option for me becuase my Noctua NH-D14 is so tall that I only have a few mm clearance from the side panel.

Some people think it looks like a Storm Trooper while others say it reminds them of the PCs at Aperture Science in Portal.

Thanks KB unfortunately I live in durban. Correct me if I'm wrong but if I were to add another 200mm fan on top,I'd have to use something I can get locally,as nzxt fans aren't kept in stock by SA retailers. So let's say I get a cm 200mm fan,I would drill new holes. But there's a plastic cover that goes on top so you wouldn't be able to see the new holes that were drilled?

And my second query is do you think a side panel fan would fit with my cm v6 gt cooler? And I actually saw someone had put a xigmatek. Fan on his side panel wit the nh d14 cooler. But he had 1mm clearance so I kept his filter off.

And just a little thing that was bugging me. What colour psu have you got? Mine will be black inside a white case. Does it not stick out like a sore thumb and ruin the looks? On reviews they use a white nzxt psu. I assume you got your case from Evetech?

The plastic facia would prevent the drilled holes from being seen but I would actually recommend asking the guys at Evetech to see if they can order a fan for you.

I want to keep my filter on to prevent my gear being covered in dust. Its one of the reasons I love this chassis over my HAF 932.

I have a black Gigabyte Odin 800W PSU with black cables. The black PSU looks good but that is my opinion. I will take pics this week and post them to let you see what it looks like. When it comes to PSUs quality and reliability trumps looks, but I suspect a guy like Dae will more than likely spray his PSU to match the paint job.

I'm sure the psu wouldn't look bad like you say. And thanks I will definitely talk to the guys at evetech, they are actually out of stock at the moment so I'll ask them to order a fan with their next batch.

And Dae! I'd be sooooo keen to see what you would do to the case, because I'd like a window on the side panel, so I will be modding it. The_jelly and I are getting into modding so this would be an awesome project for us!

So KB I assume you would recommend this case to me? Are there any flaws in the build design? And also as far as I could tell its impossible to have a 3.5" device mounted in front. Because I have a usb3 box thats meant to be mounted in a 3.5" bay. That's another thing I could mod... But its not a big deal beacause I have usb3 ports at the back anyway
