Cross-over cables for LAN
Cross-over cables for LAN
Is it possible for me and a friend to connect our pcs together for LANing using cross-over cable? How do we find each other's PC when it keeps showing "Unidentified network"!

Re: Cross-over cables for LAN
Yes, you can directly link two PCs via a crossover cable. More than two, and you'd better have a switch to plug cables into.
You would also need to give both PCs static IP addresses that are on the same subnet. I suspect that your "unidentified network" error is due to the PCs being configured to use DHCP where no DHCP server is available.

Re: Cross-over cables for LAN
Unidentified network is from Windows looking for a gateway/dns/domain. If your IP addresses are on the same range you will be fine.
PS. Modern gigabit network cards often don't need a crossover cable. A normal cable will work just fine.

What I type has nothing to do with the people that employ me.

We pick up each others PCs but whenever we try starting a game in COD 5, we can't. It says we're offline. Is it supposed to online instead and how are we supposed to fix this?

Re: Cross-over cables for LAN
By off-line do you mean the message that Cod 5 gives you when you start it up....."cannot connect to server......off-line mode...."
If so it does not matter it just means that you cant play an internet game only a LAN one......
