Please help! I recently posted here asking if this is possible, and I was told it is. I've been googling but I don't get clear answers.
Can someone please explain how to boot off my ext hdd. Step by step or maybe you know of a good site that will show me?
I know I need to create a partition and I need those boot file off a bootable floppy?

Re: how do i boot off my ext HDD
Go into your BIOS and choose "removable" as your first device in your boot sequence.
As for the files on the HDD, there's no standard. Everything is different

Well, you'll need to install windows to the external drive then. No biggie there

No, you need to install windows to the external, not image it.
Dude, just google it. There are a million guides on the net on how to do this

Re: how do i boot off my ext HDD
Do you want Windows installed on the external so you can boot into Windows from it, or do you want to use the external as an install drive so you can install Windows from it instead of using the DVDs?

Re: how do i boot off my ext HDD
Thanks a million stuart. That's exactly what I was looking for,I couldn't find a simple way on google.
Well I think I've managed to partition my hdd and bootsect it. Now all I need is the os and it should work hopefully!
I've been wondering as a matter of interest I'll have to copy the dvd as it is hey? I was thinking of making an image, but I don't think the boot manager will be able to retrieve files off an image?

Re: how do i boot off my ext HDD
Ja, just copy the files from the DVD to the drive once you've prepared it. If you follow the steps on the site exactly it'll work as planned.

Re: how do i boot off my ext HDD
Iv copied win7 onto the HDD. The drive icon turns into a win7 install icon. But now when I try boot up with it it says bootmgr.exe not found.
But it is on the drive. When I set boot priority in bios I can see samsung G3 which is the hdd. But it doesn't see the 2 individual partitions...
Am I doing something wrong??
