sorry misread that one.

9600xt against 9800se.... Now let us seee

9600 against 9800 no contest there.

Now the xt is an upgraded/bossted version of the standard card and the se is a cutdown so they might verry well be verry close to each other but I would still thing the 9800 kicks the 9600's bottom in a serious way.

Will get you a comparative price in a moment

So you say I didn't pick the wrong one

chek this

9600XT 128/128bit 3D mark 2001SE 12567
9800SE 128/256bit 3D mark 2001SE 14128

9600XT 128/128bit 3D mark 2003 3757
9800SE 128/256bit 3D mark 2003 3726

and for the 9800SE you can still unlock the other 4 pipeline wich I still don't know how to do but you can so I hear wich should get you a score of about +-5000

The XpertVision 9800se Has L shaped memory and 256bit memory.
With riva tuner or The omega driver you can unlock the extra pipelines and then you have basicly a 9800 Pro in your hands.

You ask how i whould know... well i own one my self, and ive pushed it past 6200 on 3dmarks 2003 when i got( with minor overclocks). Illpost some screen shots and links to the scores when i get home.

You can get the drivers From here. http://www.omegacorner.com

ok i have to add only 1in 4 cardswork right though... some of the others pipesaredamaged

Radeon 9800SE can be very vise purchuse since it can be converted to radeon 9800.

If you have 256bit version than the result is almost as good as radeon 9800 pro, but 128bit version is not worth buying, since you do not save a lot of money but you loose a lot of speed. All you have to do is install softmod drivers and all 8 pipelines will be available to the card. That can almost double the result from 3Dmark 2003. I advise everyone to buy 256bit version, because only these cards can transformed to real 9800 pro.

There is small possibility that artifacts will apear when installing softmod drivers and in that case the card you have bought is not suitable for transformation from 9800SE to 9800pro and you will have to be satisfied with regular 9800SE.

Softmods are pretty dangerous to the average user, so i'd strongly advise against them unless you're really willing to learn how to do it properly and also accept the consequences of a F-up(if it happens, which can be a very sad thing)! Trust me, i've heard of a few guys having $300 room decorations!

However the 9800SE is a rather good card stock standard, and will run most games without too many problems, so i reckon take the card, at R1700 it is a bargain. Unless of course you're willing to wait and see what ATI and Nvidia have up their sleeves for the mid-range market! If its anything like the performance of the 6800, we should see cards in the mid-range market breaking 7k in 3dm03 stock and for pretty good prices too!
