Custom PC

Post by Bazatt »

Hi. I need some help. I need a new pc for under R9000.

[Note: Blue = New; Red = Old]

This is the new rig I want to build (all hyper-linked):

Image

CPU: Intel Core i5 750 (2.66GHz , LGA1156, 8MB L3 cache) @ R 1992
Board: MSI P55 CD53 @ R1170
RAM: Transcend JetRam High-Performance 2GB DDR3-1333 (2 X 2GB) @ R1100
Graphics: Club 3D Radeon HD5770 1GB (GDDR5, 128-bit) @ R1618
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB (32MB cache) @ R551
Case: Coolermaster Elite 310 @ R300
PSU: Cooler Master eXtreme Power PSU 500w @ R602
DVD: LG GH22LS40 22x LightScribe Dual Layer DVD Writer @ R238
OS: Windows 7: Home Premium Edition @ R999
Extra Fans: Coolermaster silent LED case fan twin pack(120mm, blue)

Total Cost: R8643

My current rig is a Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo J (don't judge).

Image

These are the components as far as I can make out:

Specs

Intel Pentium 4
Intel Celeron D 341 / 2.93 GHz
512 MB DDR SDRAM
PCI Express x16 - NVIDIA GeForce 6200 SE - 64 MB
80gb HD
350w PSU
Lan network card.
Windows XP

How much would I get for it second hand?

My old pc just isn't grafting with newer games. I live on a farm, not the most PC friendly environments so maybe a 'tough case' or 'dust trap' would help.
Please all sugestions welcome.

Thanks

If you are going for the P55 chipset rather push for the i5 750.

The rest looks good.

The P55 is the chipset part, where the i5 is the cpu architechture socket

Ok so I must swop the i3 530 for the i5 750. Ok that pushes my budget up by R894 but still under R9000.

So I need to swop the Intel P55WB WhitesBerg and the i3 530?
As I said I'm not too tech savy. So what does the P55 swop to?

Ok ok, I misread - you already did the math for a i5 CPU and Motherboard.
As Puento stated, nice GPU !

Nah that motherboard is fine. I have one. The only drawback is that its hasnt got usb3 or sata 3 (6gb) with it. But it supports crossfire and sli. Go for the i5 750 over the i3 and windows 7 home premium should be more than enough.

I would certainly go for a larger HDD, 80g is way too little, go >300! DVD writer and reader, I like Samsung and LG, use both and am happy.

Up the wattage on the power plant, >500W :)

For the custom rig thought I've changed the Western Digital Caviar Green 500GB (32MB cache) @ R505 for the Seagate Barracuda 500GB @ R530.

your custom rig will be light years ahead. . .
i5>>>>Q8300
DDR3 RAM >>>> DDR2
5770 >>>>>>>> GT220

And that is the core components for gaming.

I've just read a post about the dvi vs. d-sub issue and the one person said that their pc only had dvi. Does my graphics card have d-sub and dvi?

You should get a DVI to D-sub converter in the box with your card.
