New search engine for Muslims

Post by Drakonis »

Can't even think of a bad joke for this one
A new search engine called ImHalal.com has been launched and is aimed at filtering out content considered “haram.” Haram or Haraam means forbidden in Arabic and refers to anything prohibited by the Islamic faith

My opinion, not the mag's

There is a growing feeling amongst Muslims the world around that there is a return to the days of jahillyya. (Broadly barbarism, unbelief and ignorance.)
The availability of some content on the net that attacks the mores and values of the Qur'an and the hadith requires a response.
This is actually quite an interesting response compared to the responses favoured by some militant groups, who interpret jihad as being a violent struggle. :?

A surprising amount of modern pseudoscience is coming out of the environmental sector. Perhaps it should not be so surprising given that environmentalism is political rather than scientific.

More brainwashing! So who decides on the interpretation of forbidden?

Define brainwashing in this context?

Maybe this should be moved to the 'Easily Offended' thread - very much religion based... :?

*edit
I'm Halal - About us wrote:The last few years Muslims have become very active on the Internet. The lack of tools for Muslims to be able to continue their online activities responsibly has inspired ImHalal.com to enter the search engine market. Our goal is to become the number one homepage in all Muslim households. Our main product will always remain search but we got ambitious plans to expand our product line by adding Islamic widgets to our homepage in the near future.

Please note that ImHalal.com is a tool designed for Muslims to be able to continue their online activities in a safe and clean environment. Using ImHalal.com will prevent you from "accidentally" bumping into explicit content but if you deliberately go looking for explicit content you might find what you are looking for after some while and that's why we advise those people to use alternative search engines since ImHalal.com isn't designed for those purposes.

At ImHalal.com we care about our users and therefore our users feedback, suggestions and ideas mean a lot to us. If you would like to help us improving our service please contact us at: feedback@imhalal.com
Seems innocent enough?

 try searching "pork"...

sorry, but that's just... "special"...

brainwashing, probably not... but i fail to see what good could possibly come from reinforcing a fake world view, especially within a theological sect well known for having an already thoroughly distorted one... :/

The way I see it this is an effort to allow people to search the web without running into stuff that would be made offensive by their religion.

Kinda like some people filtering adult content?

So why not just use existing free filtering software that does that?
Sounds to me like ImHalaal want to filter world views and opinions as much or maybe even more than they want to block pr0n.
Not that I care - sheeple using this site will probably never come into contact with me on the WWW and that suites me just fine.
