Rickrolling

Post by RuadRauFlessa »

Hi everyone.

Just thought I might want to let everyone know that rickrolling is not funny any more and we are receiving a bundle of complaints regarding it. The next person to post such a link might very well come up in the disciplinary actions thread.

This thread is unlocked which i assume means we can voice opinions.

What's the issue with rockrolls? They've been hilarious for ages and everytime I see someone get rickrolled, they laugh about it. I don't see why this now becomes a BANNABLE offense?

First there was banning for "Thread-Necro", though no suitable argument could be made for/'against it - I would rather necro a a valid thread than have 30 new ones.

We then have bans for unnecessary threads, though those only get made because a necro would result in a ban.

We now have bans for Rickrolling.

Next thing bans will be in place for continuing memes for longer than a week or using multicoloured text in posts.

Why is PCF becoming so Police-like? Surely matters of discipline and control like this should only be put in place and enforced where the behaviour of the forumites is starying to negatively impact the forum? Where has that happened? Sure, Firestrm was being a plick and got a warning for it - no problem with that. But why take the fun out of the forum?

If you ban RR you may as well ban the badger and all links to tinyurl.com.

This is not a rant, merely an observation and I guess a query....what's up with PCF lately?

Registered subscribers - who also happen to be regular, contributing forumites - have failed to get their PAID-FOR copies of the magazines. Now the PCF-Gestapo are taking hostages.

What the hell is going on with our friendly, well-loved forum?

I can understand the necro issue when threads are necro'd for no valid reason, but as for rickrolling, so, everyone has a laugh. and frankly the guys like Sojourn who ***** and complain because they got rickrolled, troll and spam our threads and frequently piss us off. So, I'm sorry, but I don't see why we can't have our own back? :|

I'm sorry you two feel that way.

The roll this morning stuffed up a rather technical, lengthy e-mail I was busy with. :|

So I support the move wholeheartedly.

As annoying as Rickrolling is(Rusty p**d me off the other day with 1), I feel that getting banned for it is a bit extreme.

Common sense people, we seem to be losing it.

So because you were slacking off on PCFForums on your work time, instead of finishing off the "Technical E-mail", you blame someone else?

Please refer to the "common sense" comment I posted above...

I have been rolled numerous times - I am now too wary to click on links in case it is another one. I for one will be glad if there aren't any more rolls.

maybe ban it just from the tech threads, or just ban the type that hijacks your browser?

I'd like to know why the forum rules only apply to some people and not to all. Especially the necro rule.

You think I'd use IE? I'm offended! :violent3:

Unfortunately, FF3 is vulnerable to RR as well.

Prime. Please link where I spammed a thread where you needed to get your own back...
My gripe is with tinyurl links which is used in an ambush in the mids of a semi-serious discussion.
Yes, I access the site from work. Yes I use web-apps that gets F-ed because of that link.
Thus my complaint.

I try to avoid the spam threads where people amass 14k+ post counts on purpose. Feel free to rick-spam to your hearts content there.
