Windows 2008 audio problem

Post by IcePick88 »

Good afternoon guys,

I installed Windows 2008 Server on a pc here at work to test with. The problem I have here is that the audio does not want to work. Windows installed everything else except the onboard graphics and the sound drivers. The onboard graphics was quickly sorted out, but the sound is still the problem. I tried all the drivers I could find, but nothing.

I downloaded the Intel Chipset Identification Utility and it says I have a Intel 945GV mobo. Sound drivers I cannot find of the Intel website!

As far as I can gather, alot of people use windows Vista drivers, but I am unable to find any for this mobo. My WSUS server also picks up my machine as Windows Vista.

Any ideas?

P.S. I even extracted the drivers from a machine with the same mobo, but the OS is XP, but I had to try.

Thanks in advance.

So have you tried using Vista drivers or not?

I know chipset drivers are linked to the sound and vice versa. I would try uninstall everything and then read the manual personally. Usually I do Chipset>graphics>Sound>other with a restart at every point. Sometimes the system just doesn't like incorrect driver install order.
Try both XP and Vista drivers.

I realised now that I posted in the wrong forum. Admins, if you would do me the honour.

I eventually gave up. I will try and install it on a pc that has a more "known" motherboard. I even tried the original drivers cd with no luck. Then I downloaded the vista drivers for the onboard sound, but nothing. It just complains that the driver could not be loaded.

Thanks for the help anyways. Although 2008 Server looks pretty. It has the same structure as Vista. But yet more stable and powerfull.

Cheers!

You won't find Audio drivers on the intel website. The CPU chipset is intel yes but the Audio chipset will be something like Realtek or VIA or something. Try going to Realtek's site and searching for the drivers that correspond to the 945GV chipset.

Ai ai ai, that's a very strange chipset you have there, been reading up and it seems quite a few people are struggling with drivers for it. Will let you know if I come across anything...

yeah, I looked everywhere for drivers for that chipset but to no avail.

I found out that it is soundmax drivers that I need, but none work. But thanks anyways guys. I decided to let the OS rest on a platform where no sound is needed. On a server! :)

Cheers!

Yeah my laptop has an i945PM chipset and also uses SoundMax audio. Oh well, leaving it as a server is probably best bet yeah...
