well...I'm just gonna jump in here and blurt a couple words.
Try gentoo linux. Its not for newbies really but if you know anything about linux then you should try it. Oh, and you're gonna need a decent internet connection if you want the latest packages.
But once its all compiled and set up. It truly does fly.
