Windows 2003 Small Business Server DNS question

Post by GrimStoner »

We have a SBS2003 server setup for our company's domain. One server on the network is a Red Hat box with our software PABX on it. It has a web interface, at say 10.10.10.250:5555. Is there a way to setup Windows' DNS Server to route a name like "TelephoneSoftware" to that IP address and port?

Yes. This will require knowledge about DNS itself, as well as Microsoft's DNS server software. I don't imagine it would be too difficult though.

Just note that you should set up the DNS to be only accessible from within your organisation, as 10.0.0.0/8 is a private IP range (likewise if you're using 172.16.0.0/12 or 192.168.0.0/16).

yes, it is possible, i think you will have to setup A & PTR record in DNS for it to work, you might need to create and alias on DNS as well. play around with it
