Converting image from scanned file to 'Vector' format?

Post by Slasher »

Hi Guys,

I have a scanned logo for our church youth group that I need to have converted to a format that is accepted by shirt printers. Apparently it has to be some lossless vector something or other? Photoshop type of file.

Can anyone assist me in doing this? I will mail you the image...

Need it rather urgently though, is needed ASAP.

Thanks,

Slasher

Don't they just need it in CMYK colour?

Ok guys...

DarkRanger actually offered to help me as well...

I will post it to photobucket tonight when I get home (round about 5 or 5h15) then post the link here... Anyone that can get it done for me would be greatly appreciated...

eraser - a guy I spoke to said they need it in lossless format - thus not just CMYK...

I dont know to be honest, I need to take it further from there on then...

Mkay, I'll check tonight then.

You can pick which format you want: CMX, CDR, SVG, DXF, DWG.

Though CMX should be the win.

Vector lossless means you can resize it with no quality loss, unless I am mistaken.

Any vector image is lossless, because images are not defined as a bitmap, but rather points and lines. That's why it scales without quality loss.

and how is it done? Can't someone explain a bit or give a short tutorial?

Do you need coraldraw or something to make vector images or is Adobe illustrator good for it too?

you can use any of a number of vector tools. Most common ones are Corel Draw (please do not use this, as it is rubbish, only amateurs and idiots use it), Freehand (great app, but now out of production since adobe bought out macromedia) and Illustrator (this is the one to use, it is simply awesome, if a little intense).

Each one of these apps has its own file format, but you can save as a PDF and keep the vector information.

I'm no graphic designer but I'm pretty sure that you would have to rework/recreate the image in something like Illustrator to make it a vector.

I am both an amateur and an idiot, yet I have no idea how to do this with Corel Draw. (Yes, I do use Corel somewhat frequently.)

EDIT: Good work, Hman!

Het ge-reply op jou e-mail, maar daar is 'n error by jou mail server.

all the programs I mentioned (including the dreaded Corel) have a pen/path/line tool. You use it to make lines with complex curves using anchor / corner points.

However your image is only black and white so you can use the trace tool (again all the apps have it).
