Project: Juke ³ 02/10/06

Post by Anthro »

Name update: Juke ³ (JukeCubed...)

Hi there guys and girls,I have always wanted to build my own little jukebox - so now I have the guts to do it....
I am basically going to built a "box out of mirrors and glass, and fit a PSU+ CDROM onto it, with a bunch of LED's UV reactive paint etc etc.
Now... here comes the big question: How easy is it to drill into mirror and glass ??

WOW...im sure its extremely hard as it would crack easily...but with the right equipment its possible.
Nice idea and good luck!

Well, if i'm not mistaken, you actually get drill bits that are specifically for glass, and using those bits you'd be LESS likely to brake or crack the glass.

w00t!! Wehnke you're starting a mod!! Hehehe!! Can't wait!

EDIT: w00000000000t!!! My avvie is on your site!!!

Why the hell can't I edit my posts anymore ???
Anyway, bad news - I took my memory card out of my Nokia to transfer the pics I took... transfered them, and then saw that the printer here has a "mem card slot" so I insert the card.. and guess what, it gets stuck !!!!!
So I struggled for like 40 minutes to get the thing out and when I eventually do, the card is corrupt
So yeah I lost all my other photo's except the jukebox ones. AND my mem card is stuffed

Okay here goes..
1. The victim - old Samsung CD ROM, it is a bit dirty so I will have to clean it up a bit..
Image
Image

Starting the cleanup job - woah it is hard to tear off these stickers !!
Image

All clean yippeee..
Image

Starting to void the warranty..
Image

YOUR WARRANTY is OVER boy !!
Image

My first problem/task at hand, this CD ROM does not have a play button, so I might have to put one in :? let's see if I can solder

Image

Victim No2.. an old PSU
Image

Okay here goes.. peal off some stickers...
Image

Whoops... guess what this is.. it says warranty void (DAE this does not seem to put you off so yeah)woosah
Image

More sticker peeling off...
Image

Image

Even more LOL
Image

Need to get rid of these cables... there are too many !!!
Image

Don't need a P4 4pin connector.. snip snip
Image

Image
GONE !!
Image

I took LOOONG to put this sleaving on, now I just cut it off
Image

Don't need these extra Molex' anymore, will use the wires for fans and lights...
Image

mmm... I need a colorful fan (side panel will be robbed for this purpose..
Image

That is where it must go///
Image

mmm... this looks familiar...
Image

AHA it is familiar - but not the same... some modding here we come... :P
Image
Image
Damn this thing is dirty///
Image
Snip Snip.. too long...
Image
PSU all empty -
Image
Wiring it all together..
Image
Done..
Image
Test the fan inside PSU...
Image

Test the whole setup with CD ROM attached..
Image

It turns out that I need a different CD ROM since this one does not play automatically, and a button idea seems risky/difficult... so now I need to hunt for a different CD ROM DAMN.. all that peeling stickers and stuff...
 :(

Maybe you should phone a glass company like PG or something and ask them how the drill holes in glass.

This mod has some serious potential. Cool now for some pictures...

um... Dude you got all links in there and the links don't go to pics... Or maybe I would need to create an account? Why don't you use imageshack or photobucket.

I can't even see the last image :( But i assume you're talking about the voltage points on the CD-ROM. So i drew this diagram quick:

Does it explain what you want to know?
