um i guess maybe its a prob have you got network cards on both comps? i guess you must do otherwise it might be an idea to install xp on both computers then its easier to set up network. its really much easier to set up network on both comps with xp. theres a lot of factors that can cause a network to not detect each other. i simply dont know how to explain it but check everything you can. itll probably be a small error that you can fix.try go to command and ping the other comps ip. you can set up an ip by right clicking the network icon and go to status, properties, internet protocol(tcp/ip) and set an ip such as 192.168.55.1 for the first comp and 192.168..55.2 on the other. or otherwise in command type ipconfig to get the current ip. hope this helps

Are those the ony PCs on ur network?
If so are they linked card-to-card or do they go through a switch or hub?
I assume ur using static IPs, make sure each machine has a different one.
Is there network connectivity (link lights and LAN status icon in the taskbar)
Check their network IDs and computer names as well, they shouldnt be blank or conflicting
Are they both joining the same domain?
===========================
As you can see, the list of possible faults are almost endless....
It would help if you were more specific.
