Some E6850 help

Post by Road_Kill »

Ok, this is going to sound like a dumb question ,and it probably is. I have decided to do a small upgrade. So I decided to get the E6850, now, it has a FSB of 1333mhz. Now what I want to know is if this chip will work on a MB that is only rated at 1066mhz, and if so, how will it affect the performance. Thank you for the help.

it will work but the board will either auto oc itself or the chip will be forced to a fsb of 1066. which will bring your cpu speed down... wat mobo do you have?

I haven't got a board yet, still in the process of getting one. It's between the following. ABIT AW9D-MAX intel 975 or the DFI LANPARTY UT ICFX3200-T2R/G.

So if the chipp gets clocked down to 1066mhz, any idea of what speed it would run at? Sorry for the noob questions, I've just been out of what's new for a long time.

@1066 fsb you will run at 2.4 ghz... but AFAIK both those boards support 1333 fsb...

OK, i see now, you just need the updated BIOS. Thanks a lot for your help. One last question, is R1300 a good price for a 2nd hand E6850?

Edit:
One more thing, that DFI runs off an Ati chipset, does this matter much? I mean, it shouldn't have any negative affects on my geforce?

I'm kind of on a tight budget, so I'm getting all my stuff second hand, hence the limited choice.
