Overclocking Radeon 9800SE
Overclocking Radeon 9800SE
Hi all
I have had my Radeon 9800SE for I think it's about 2 mounths now and with my old mobo performance was still poor(24000 in Aquamark) But now I am happy with my new mobo
( http://www.sybaritic.co.za/store/produc ... ts_id=1669 ) (28000 in Aquamark) and I now want to try to get a bit more I have heard that the 9800SE can have it's over 4 pipelines unlocked and get it close to the 9800 pro but then there was sometning about only 1in4 work and stuff like that heres my specs
P 4 2.4Ghz
2x 256mb DDR 266
Gigabyte GA-8IG1000 Pro-G I865G mobo
Xpert vision 9800SE 128MB 256 Bit(I heard you have to have to 256bit ver to get to 9800Pro)
Windows 98SE

Hey Garp
Ok you have the right Card. I have one my self.
Firstly You can Download omega drivers from http://www.omegacorner.com . Again only 1 in 4 9800se's Work properly. Uninstall your old Radeon drivers Removing the ATI controle panel too. Then install the omegadrivers follow the onscreen instructions.
Now if you have the right Card (ie all 8 pipes working properly) you shud be able to start up your pc with out any glitches in the Graphics.
If you have any questions let me know
Cheers Carrot

Good news I used something called ATi toool and over clocked my card to the same as yours 420/350 I went from 3500 to 4006 in 3D mark 2003 and from 2800 to 30500 in aqua mark 3 I havent tried the drivers yet because I havent had time to download them. but is that good resultes just from changing the Core\mem speeds. I'v turned them back down to defults because I noticed quit a big change in temp on the card (on normal speeds it fine but overclocked I cant keep my finger on the heat sink I wonder why 8O ) Yea Ok I know why now how do I cool it down Thanks for the help
@Garp & @ Garrot:
Do you think the 9800SE is good value for money, taking into account that you can overclock it. What manufacturer do you have. I can get PowerColor for R1700??I do not know wether it is 256Bits.
What do you think?
Here are the cards full spec. It does seem to be 256Bit

You can get a Geforce FX5900Xt for R1900, I think the 5900Xt is a better card than the 9800Se and you can easily overclock it to 5900 ultra levels, if you're lucky even to 5950 speeds.BillaBoy wrote:@Garp & @ Garrot:

Edit - check out the charts from www.tomshardware.com - it's a comparitive benchmark in a couple of games
UT2003 :
Battlefield 1942 :
Call of Duty :
Intel Core i7-950 | MSI X58 Pro-E, STK1366 | Geforce GTX470 1280 | 8GB DDR3 1333Mhz RAM | Samsung 226BW Monitor | Windows 7 Home Premium
I got down to downloading the drivers and it worked fine I;v got all 8 pipelines and I used Ati tool to get my clock speeds to 420\350 and basicly this is the end result and for some reason AquaMark3 wont work sometimes when ATi tool is running is this good I used to only get like 3200 then tried overclocking and got 4000 now the drivers and overclocking
