Many of their reviews are biased, they compare benches from diff cpus and stuff. I think Hex mentioned it a while back?

Yeah, I remember now, aaah yes, they are the idiots with the cpu/video charts! Oh my bad man, was thinking about another site.

Anyway, back to the topic?

9800GX2, the card looks like a monster, and with a price tag of $449 US - it going to be very good. Except if you SLI 2x 8800GTs, think the GX2 is better or what?

gx2 is 30-50% faster than 8800 ultra so yes it's faster than 8800gt.

Personally going to wait for 8900gtx or 8900gt. Not going to be fiddling with sli drivers and profiles which will happen with the gx2.

It's actually 2 8800GTS 512 slapped together, 2x G92 cores with 128 steam processors each, so yeah, I guess

Sickwacky is right, its the G92 GTS's. Not much point in it really, its just SLI on one board.

true but it will be a bit cheaper than buying 2 G92 GTS cards.
The expected price: around $449 US. Expected announcement date: February 14, 2008.

Guess what I am starting to save for. If it is 30% faster than the ultra, then I might just buy this card and get myself a quad core CPU.

I've been waiting for another GX2 card. I just hope that they don't sell it at the same price as the 7950GX2...

Yeah, and it's cheaper than 2x 8800GTS 512s :) the GX2 is actually a great idea, except quad SLI, hope it works this time around.

Oh and I don't get what nvidia is doing here, a 9 series card which is actually 2x 8 series cards slapped together  :?

It's aimed to take the ultra's place in the market and the ultra was aimed to take the 7950gx2's place in the market so expect similar pricing.

And on what nvidia is doing with 2 8 cards slapped together it's because the 9 series isn't a new architecture as far as we know. It's more like the move from 7800 to 7900. The 9 series is a move to dx 10.1 and shader 4.1 plus all the cards being 65nm. Will have to wait to see how they perform but it won't be as big a gap as there was with 7 series and 8 series cards.

They have to make it at least 75% faster than the GTX for people to buy it because they normally position the flagship at $550 - $600. You could get a GX2 for less than that, so to make it attractive there will have to be a large increase. Unless the top model is quite cheap which is also possible but hasn't happened before. I expect the gap as being similar to the 6 to 7 series move, where there was an overhaul of the architecture but not a change. We need fast DX10, not the crap performance we're getting now.

Maybe 192 SPs @ 2.0ghz / 700Mhz core on a 512bit bus? That should do it.
