Project: Monolith :: The Next Phase
Hey, So its finally happening.
KillerByte is modding his case.
Here is what I have at my disposal
Thermaltake Tsunami Dream Chassis
AOpen 450W PSU
DFI Infinity P965-S Dark Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 3.0GHz
Enzotech Ultra X Cooler
GSkill DDR2 800 Low Latency Dual Memory Modules (2*1024Mb)
XFX 7900GT w/ Zalman Fatality Cooler
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
So the case is 2 years old and has no warranty on it. Which is ideal since I don't like warranties.
The modding to the case will not be major, the exterior of the case will remain true to the original design, but certain key factors will change.
Firstly, I've installed 3 CCFL's. While some people don't like them I prefer to make my PC look like a display cabinet and allow people to see all my gear. The door of the case has 2 led's on it, these create an effect on the front door. These LED's died about 12 months ago and I am now installing 2 new super bright LED's. These LED's are so bright that a single LED can light up half my room. lol. I have 4 of these LED's so I want to find a use for the other 2.
I will be sleeving the PSU, and thanx to doobs I will still be able to use my PC while I am sleeving. He has graciously allowed me to borrow his spare PSU, 400w, and by the way it is for sale. PM if you want it.
I will be spraying the inside of the case black as currently its bare metal and that looks terrible.
The rear fan will be replaced with a AC Ryan Blackfire 4 Kameleon fan, which is black but when you turn on the LED's it glows blue, which I think is a nice efffect since the black fan will blend in with the black interior then it will light up and glow blue.
I am afraid that the last to be changed will be the exterior panels.
These will be done last because I don't want to get them scratch while I do this mod. They will all be sanded down to bare metal and then resprayed, except the plastic panels which are fine.
And finally, my greatest joy will be the removal of the current window which is a boring sheet of perspex with thermaltake written on the side. That window will be replaced with a sheet of AcrylMirror 2 which I think is one of the best modding ideas that I have ever seen. Its a acrylic panel with a mirror finish but when you turn the lights on inside of the case it goes clear allowing people to see into your case.
Phase 1, which was the installation of the CCFL's, is complete.
Phase 2, which is the installation of the LED's, is 50% complete.
I feel like Homer, I've installed the CCFL's before the repsray. but at I did this because I want my PC to look good even while I am modding it. I go to loads of LAN's so I like to show it off.
Ideas? Comliments? Complaints? Flames? Spam?

so last night I came up with a far better name, the name Black-Ray just did not sit well with me.
So last night I tripped over my tower, cursed and then mumbled to myself about the fact that my case is a bloody monolith. and Thats where it hit me.
The new name for my system, Monolith.
Black, Sleek, Beautiful, powerful...

Have to agree with that! The first PSU I ever sleeved was taking for ever so I rushed it and got really crap results...Lithe_Joint wrote:Nice! Don't get put off by the cabling and sleeving though...when you take your time and do it right, you will certainly see the results
Good luck.
The mod is looking good dude, Its inspired me to do something with 777 again, the money a touch tight at the moment though
Keep up the good work bro
