I know what you mean. I can read most of the kana as they come up on screen but the kanji are well hard.
I bought a book the other day to help with Kanji

Synopsis:
The comic book that teaches you how to read and write Japanese! This brand-new series from Manga University uses original comic artwork to teach readers how to identify and write the most common Japanese kanji ideographs. Volume 1 introduces 80 basic kanji that all Japanese schoolchildren are required to learn before entering the third grade. Subsequent volumes in the series will focus on more difficult kanji and kanji compounds. Each page features its own comic strip, kanji pronunciation guide, stroke order, and English explanations.

It's really good. It helps a little with anime watching.

I looked for books on japanese at CNA yesterday but couldnt find ONE :?

I found that anime helps with getting the feeling for the language, even you may not learn many words.

Ps VoxynQueen, can I add you to my msn? I need someone to practice with. Im still a very beginer, but it helps to speak/type to someone else.

Good stuff jee!!!

@lancelot - We wanna learn Jap so we can truly understand Japanese. Although it has been said thay Jap is very inconsistent and leaning it would not bring much benefit. But IMO, the amount of anime that we watch, it would be alot better to directly understand what's going on instead of relying on subs.

But if we were to learn Jap, then we'ld have to dl RAW's and RAW's are scarce.
Oh well, I've learnt a couple of words since I've started watching and the longest ones I know of are:
Ippe Shindemiru - Want to try dying once? - Jigoku Shoujo/Enma Ai
Wasurenai Itsumo - I'll always remember you (or something like that) - Chrno Crusade OP

Ok back on topic. I think we should try comunicating in japanese, its the best way to learn. Seeing that we type in romanji spelling isnt that importend. Explain the words you use. And NO, and simple 'Hai' is not allowed. Say somethink usefull.

Ill start

Miina-san, nani'o nomimasu ka?

Miina-san -all of you
nani - what
nomimasu - drink
ka - Question marker

What do you guys want to drink?
