How about THE COVER MODEL, but with A MOTHERBOARD STUCK ON HER FACE?! Genius, isn't it? You'll get no more sideways looks from discerning folk, and if you do, shove the mag in their face and shout "Look! It's just a motherboard with a body, you sicko!" Then they'll run away from the shop and sob.but there must be a better way....

<Tears up the cover of his PCF Magazine in protest.>
I am beginning to feel more than just a little self-conscious about buying a magazine with a pictre with a picture of a woman on the cver.....could you at least have them wear more clothing....please.
Thanks

A most unusual step, this front cover. I wonder why a bra was used? She is a pretty lady, no doubt, but she was a bit over the top. Now our mag is bursting out in controversy and everybody is wondering where this will go, my bra!
Tell me Ramjet, what are the ciculation figures for PCFormat since 2003 to date?

That why the DVD covers have been made the standard size, so the guys that are embarassed by the female form can manipulate the cover over the model and thus hide any embarrasing content.rustypup wrote:i concur...jee wrote:but having UNDERWEAR IN MY COMPUTER MAGAZINE!
while the content has started improving, (glad to see the return to the "how to.." roots), the cover made me hesitate... seriously... I got one or two uncomfortable looks from folks ...
i know the cover is there to stand out on shelf... but there must be a better way....

its not embarrassing to buy pcf if theres a woman on the front,regardless what shes wearing... its NOT as if its playboy/hustler/etc.
pcf's covers are always tasteful!
i was surprised when a friend of mine, genivieve was on febs cover, i could brag that we done modelling together!
lieschen... hmmm... lieschen looked very hot in the sasi swimsuit edition, and on the "making of"... oooooohhh.
i DONT see why there should be ANY controversy regarding the cover, who gives 2 stuffs whats on the outside? thats why when walt said that it attracts customers, i thought to myself that its bull.
what attracts customers is the brand, regardless whats on the cover. the name counts, and if the brand name has a good rep, and in this case the content as well, people will recommend it and people will be converted (from nag). though the march version of nag has got an awesome cover, i prefer my pcf!!!

I must agree with what most are saying, i don't feel comfortable walking around a shopping center (or anywhere) with a sign on my bag that says "To know the truth is to know Jesus Christ" but with a magazine with a cover of some chick almost naked.... i just don't like it...
Whenever i go to CNA to buy my UK PCFormat, i make sure i get a bag for it, i don't want people to see these girls on a magazine that i'm reading. The magazine is about computers afterall...

Maybe they should put semi-naked PCs on the cover then...?

Yeah guys, I also understand the complaints here.
Now don't get me wrong, as most members would know me by now, I personally wouldn't give a damn if your cover featured a girl spreading pink on it, I'd still buy it if I felt the need to do so.
But, the bigger picture you oke's seem to miss lately is the fact that that's just me. That's my take on it, one which the majority of readers might not necessarily share, as is evident by this thread.
Let me share with you my reasoning...
Every month I buy a few mags, NAG, PCF UK, PCF etc, read through it, and then unlike many of you, instead of staking it up in the cupboard, pass it on to mates and family, lile my folks for example. They have a decent system too and should also keep up with technology afterall.
Now for the most part this was never a problem, but let tell you I had a little argument with my mom on Sunday when dropping off the latest bunch, and after thinking about it a while later, I realised just why.
Woman in general do not like looking at semi-clad woman. You oke's seem to have forgotten that lately.
And let me tell you that having shown this months model quite a number of pages in-mag as well instead of restricting her to the cover really didn't leave me with many aces up my sleave in persuit of explaining the fact that PCF is still afterall a good technical read. I may very well have convinced my folks otherwise, but alas, the more my mom paged through it, the more I had to think of things to say.
So, binned your mag was, not to be conciddered again.
That's a shame really.
I feel that you guys are in fact decreasing your readership intsead of increasing it. And meanwhile most of you are wondering why this is still a male-driven industry...
C'mon, wake up.
If I ever see a male model on my PCF I promise you I will buy it just so that I can wipe my bottom with it and post it back to you.
Now do you guys really for a second think this reasoning should be diffirent when it comes to female readers?
This is a computer mag afterall.
So put a computer on the cover.

IMO Computers are a male thing like cars and power tools. Sure some woman delve into it, but not many. Taking the girl of the cover may mean 100 more woman buy the magazine, but probably 2000 less men would. At the end of the day, PCF have overheads etc to pay, and whatever sells more magazines the better for them. I'm sure I'm just rehashing what everyone knows already.
That said I have not seen the latest edition, so maybe I ought to keep quiet.

take a look at the tech mag racks lately?... almost as much flesh as the "top shelf" it has...PureFire wrote:if it means semi-clad girls, they do it coz they're told to.
<cheech>
that's false advertising man!
</chong>
this is not, to my mind, how a reputable mag, which is serious about dispensing tech info, should be marketing itself... ask yourself who the mag is aimed at...
what is the target market in mind when the covers are put together?... the techie or some pre-pubescent hormone factory with the intellect of a slug and the spending power of a malformed potatoe... ?
what do the advertisers get when a magazine is purchased for ogling rather than knowledge? there are other ways of standing out on shelf.....

agreed.
@rayne
Also had that prob... my mom came to visit and I have a stack of PCF's lying in the living room. Needless to say, all she saw was the cover models and I was branded as one of *those*. No amount of explanation helped salvage my reputation... the "its for the articles" argument just did not stick, because I opened one of the mags and as murphy would have it, opened it on the main article where the model was posing in all her glory. eish...

Ahhh I see the old shall we or shant we have readed its head... The main prob is not a wholeome fresh young lass on the front page and perhaps posing with the editor just to make the rest of you jealous.
BUT i draw the line at a bleddie woman in her darn underwear. And I DONT care if she is the WONDERBRA woman,,,, She should be in FHM or Cosmo!!!!!!!!!
And if you boys think that by taking away the nekkid women less men will read the mag.... oh well, yes, I understand the male way of thinking.
And if you boys think that women knows nothing/are not interested in computers and cars... well I supose then we will just have to buy the other rather interesting and great computer mags on the market!

"Integrity" and "integer" both contain a Latin root meaning "whole; complete." The root sense, then, is that people may be said to be acting with integrity when their beliefs, words, and actions have a sense of unity or wholeness.

Oh get a life all of you. Why is OK for car, health and other mags to have sexy underwear models but not computer mags? It is done tastefully and adds another dimension to the mag. So here's a tip. Take a permanent marker and cover all the girls you find so offensive in black ink and then read the wonder that is PCF. Or just don't look if it bothers you so much. Don't spoil it for the majority of us that actually enjoy this part of the mag.
Just when I got the hang of life they changed the rules.
