PSU warning for people building high end SLI / Crossfire
My PSU also supplies 25A on the 12V line its limiting my overclock with a single GTX. The max the clocks of the CPU and GPU when only one component is OCd is more than what they can when both OCd. It's a 500W cheap a$$ Procase power supply and is feather light. If your friend has this PSU (same amp ratings) and wants to run 2 GTXs, I would not recommend it.My friend wants to go dual 7800GTX later on and has a power supply of 500W, with 25A on the 12V line.
Does a PSU rating cover sustained use, or is it peak burst? I would think that most of the cheaper brands with high ratings probably can't sustain the current for extended periods which is where the discrepancies come in.

sorry to resurrect this post, but i got a question about power supplies...
i know the power supply calculator at extreme.outervision gives a good estimate,
but is there any type of hardware / software that would be able to say how much power is being drawn from the psu at any given time?
not on each of the rails or anything, but as in the whole wattage amount?!
Thanks,
PureFire.

not on the horizon. HereY0da wrote:I wonder if dual PSU setups are on the horizon?
One of the cases I was looking at for my upgrade on the rectron price list has space for two power supplies. Can't remember which one specifically though.

I think you're referring to the Coolermaster PurePower 450W PSU, they come with a display bay with analog needle showing the load on the unit...DAE_JA_VOO wrote:There's a Thermaltake PSU that comes with a display that fits into a 5.25" bay and tells you how much power you're using, but that's Thermaltake...
