If you go Agp yes, you can go for the 6800Le and unlock the pipes. I would rather go with the 6600gt, and my bet falls between the Leadtek and Gigabyte. Go to tomshardware.com and go check out the 6600gt review they did a while back.Leadtek wins the performance, but the Gigabyte wins overall for its lower price.

In the end I'll go with the Leadtek 6600gt

That was the Leadtek Extreme Edition...factory OC'ed, not the usual one.

I get 3800 in 3dmark05 with my 6600gt and 4000 with a bit of over clocking (core 580/memory 1200).
Great bang for buck card.

I can get 6800LE's for R1350, but only AGP's
I've seen 6600GT's fo R1400 PCI-e, the Spankle ones I think.

So carly, do you think it would be worth it to take a 6800LE and unlock the pipelines? What process is involved with the unlock? Is it very risky?

It's very easy, you just use riva tuner and click on a few things, and it unlocks, no bios updates, or flashing. Although there is about a 80% sucsess rate, but I think its higher than that. Although it only works for the AGP versions.

You say 80% success rate. In the case that it is not a success, does the card stop functioning? Is it possible to find out with which card manufacturers it works better or is it with all of them? Who manufactured your LE?

not that the card stops functioning,if you have really bad luck, then you can't unlock all 16 pipes, if you unlock you'll get say 14 or worst case 12 pipes, I think the Leadtek's are the most sucsessful.

I take it that you have a Leadtek. Where did you buy it and did you pay 1300 for it?

K, you cant open "14" pipelines. Its either 16, 12 or 8. You will usually be able to open all the vertex pipes, i.e. 6, stock is 4.

I also have a Leadtek, it unlocks to 12/6....giving me 11300+ with a smal volt mod

The 6800LE, if you get all the pipelines to unlock, 13000 is doable. How much are you scoring now?

Did you make a typo, Carly, or did you actually manage to bring your clockspeed down from 700 - 500?
