Taskbar start responding.

Post by rookei1 »

Is anybody else having/had a problem with the Windows XP taskbar not responding? It stops responding for about 2 minutes but you can still alt tab between programs. Even if you close a window it stay on the taskbar until it decideds to wake up.

It could be an application that has stopped responding. Or a service. I get the same once in a blue moon, I patiently wait it out, then the actual program pops up "Not Responding"

I have the same problem occasionally.
I think it happens because XP is half Win9x and half NT.
Therefore only half of it stops responding and the other half carries
on going like NT does.

Millennium was half Win9x and half NT, that is why is was such a crappy OS, that is why Microsoft sacked it, and doesn't support it any longer.

XP on the other hand, is a full on NT OS :)

But anyway I dont have problems like that, It does sound like a software conflict of some sort! go into your event log and see what errors you are getting maybe that will give you some clue as to whats actaully happening

I apologize about my mistake.
I just thought, that because XP was designed to have the same useability as Win9x and with stability of NT, that it was based on some code from Win9x.
Though, are you sure that ME was half Win9x and half NT? I though ME was more of an update to 98.

I would have to say that I agree with hooloovoo there.

Millennium was created to satisfy the gaming industry as Windows 2000 couldn't do that, but, it ended up as a useless OS. Stick to Win98 or go to WinXP

Have you installed SP1?
If not it might include a fix, I'll do a little research and let you know what I find.

hey all you smucks!!!! the answer is much easier than you think!!!!!

dahm.. I been away to long...

It is not the taskbar.. (nor windows fault)
It is explorer...
let me explain>>
1: first of all.. you all remember in win98 when explorer always crashed??? then all your task icons by the clock dissapeared???
well same thing.. exept that xp is fixing it and preventing it from crashing...
2: it also happens when you browes someone elses pc over the net.. (yea.. hacking also)
3: you all know when explorer preview a folder with a lotta pics and vids (yea.. your porn folder!!) well bingo.. there you go..
4: all your codecs also slow explorer down..

the answer???
1: use Infran view to view pics and vids (it is quicker and it is free)
2: disable media player to not connect to net everytime you open it
3: use opera to browse internet and PowerDesk to browse your pc..

explorer gets les work so your taskbar do not get frozen up by it...

ok.. how do I know all this and why should you listen to me??
I got xp BECAUSE I got sick and tired of 98 crashing..
mine also freezes a lot and by following these steps it DOES help by not freezing taskbar.. (and i got 512 ddr ram)

If all else fails... wait and it fixes itself...
