hmmm can you ping yourself:
- localhost
- local ip
- remote ip
Usually this is the order in which to test them. Makes it alot easier to try and find the problem area.
How did you check the cable?
What is your IP rage and subnet masks?

MMM....
Never tried pinging myself. Will try that.
PC
ip - 192.168.0.1
Subnet - 255.255.255.0
LAPTOP
ip - 192.168.0.2
Subnet - 255.255.255.0
Use the same cable at my buddy's place to test it.
Can Figure out what the problem could be. I did a fresh install thinking that windows could be the problem. I then just installed the drivers provided and still nothing. Then i installed the latest Nforce mobo Drivers and still the same #@#$.
This thing is driving me insane.
I got a spare 1 gig network card but that just defeats the object of having an O/b network adapter.

Nothing Works man....
But the funny thing is that if you browse the network via Network neighberhood then i c the PC from the laptop and vice versa. But cannot access that PC...and yes there are shares on both machines.
I have also tried giving them the same IP to check for communication and then is warns me IP in use....
I am sick of this network...The problem i think sits with the MOBO network card...
It has been 3 Hours and still no network.
Thanks for the help

DAY 3 AND WORKING...
Got the network card sorted. It was the DAM MAC address...In the CMOS of this DFI board theres a couple of LAN Settings and one of them are for a MAC address..MMM...Then the question, which MAC address to use.
A couple of post into a few forums and wolla....The MAC Address is situated on the Side of the AGP SLOP on the MOBO...NOW NOW DFI, why you make my life difficult...
I hope we all learnt from this experience....
