Steam coming to Linux
What do you guys (and gals) think about the fact that Steam is finally going to be officially supported in Linux.

Re: Steam coming to Linux
I think it will be wonderful for the 76 people who enjoy gaming on Linux.
Just imagine all the fun they will have playing Pong and Galager

Re: Steam coming to Linux
I'm sure that a lot more than 76 people play games on Linux. Me, if I can't get a game to run satisfactory on Linux through wine or natively (i.e running a Linux version of the game/program), then and only then I will play it in windows. In fact there are many windows games that seem to run flawlessly in wine. But some people (including me) would prefer a native solution as opposed to dual booting or running WINE.

Re: Steam coming to Linux
I think its good but remember that the games also needs to be supported for the linux OS. Only natively supported Linux game that I can remember is Unreal Tournament.
If nothing else we might see indie games popping up more on the linux side.

This is probably part of Valve's plan to create an open platform to rival consoles in the living room. I'm more excited about that!

Re: Steam coming to Linux
coupled with nvidia's recent manoeuvring on linux and how mickeysoft is hell-bent on plumbing the depths of stupidity when it comes to their newer flavours of desktop OS-ala-webtard this is just valve covering their bases...
big woop... they've had MAC support for a while now - this is hardly a major leap forward... :/

Re: Steam coming to Linux
Well if it coincides with the rumour about a steambox it does open them up from going either apple or microsoft. So even if you duel boot just for games with a steam only customized linux it might also force devs to drop windows live and all that.
