Networking

Post by Mclaren »

I have my home network setup, currently i have a Neotel wireless router with:

4 devices running wired: Xbox, and 3 computers
6 wireless items: ipod,3 phones and 2 notebooks
I need to add a few more wired: namely a printer and a TV.

Can i use a switch in there somewhere and if so how, where do i put it. I have a spare 16 or 24 port d-link switch lying around.

Plug one wired device out, plug switch in, then plug all unconnected wired devices into switch.

Yes. You can connect a switch to another switch with 1 cable as long as the line gets you straight to your router.

I have a router with a wireless access point and 2 others set up as repeaters in my house. Each of the repeaters acts as both a wireless hub and is wired to a switch each from where they further relay to my ps3/xbox/pc on a wired network.

The reason I do this is its better for the repeaters to do all the wireless handling and where gaming is concerned to have them on a wired network to reduce signal interruptions and weaker wireless devices loosing signal due to line of sight issues.
