New tech improves battery life by up to ten times.

A place for all tech stuff that doesn't really belong anywhere else.

Silicon to improve batteries tenfold - Bit-tech wrote:The huge increase in battery life, and the massive drop in charge time, is possible because a silicon atom can accommodate four lithium ions per atom while it requires six carbon atoms to accommodate a single carbon atom in conventional designs.

Your link is defective. http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2 ... -tenfold/1

We have heard about similar stuff before, but when will they ever get around to bring them to market?

Never because the extra capacity causes issues such as VOLATILITY.... hit that thing or drop it and you might sit with an explosive situation on your hands

Fixed, thanks.

With all the mobile devices around these days, perhaps there is more incentive this time round?

I freaking hope so. Power storage technology has been mostly stagnant for a long time. This technology will improve the viability of electric and hybrid car as well! Love the idea of charging my car for 30min and being able to do 300 or 400km on that charge!

You know, I am not one to throw around conspiracy theories, but here is one I am inclined to find quite probable, similar to how the tobacco companies have been spreading misinformation with near impunity for decades.

I've seen documentaries about the influence of oil companies on governments. It's scary to realise that democratically chosen governments can be influenced by corporations.

Oh no it is easy to imagine. Imagine what will happen to a country if no one wants to sell them fuel?
