Your games of the year 2011
A month and a half remains but the list of games still hitting us are at an end. Torchlight 2 is still set for sometime in December but it has no official date yet and StarWars the Old Republic is hitting US and EU 20 December (heard we might not get it till next year).
But even so time to list up those games that made you smile this year. Atleast the handful that got you smiling more than others:
Uncharted 3 (PS3)
I'd never have thought a PS3 could pull off what it did in this game. Gone from the Tomb Raider style of play this has evolved into an action movie but the set pieces will be remembered that made this game worth playing.
Witcher 2 (PC)
I don't know if it was due to Dragon Age 2 being the game it was or if this game just truly deserved its spot. Detailed beyond belief, an engrossing story and multiple paths this game is what defines an RPG. Choice, choice, choice and your actions has an effect on all of it.
Catherine (PS3)
I still don't know what to classify this game as. It is a puzzel game, with anime cut scenes, a bar area to chat with the patrons about how they feel and a story that has you on the edge of your seat asking what happens next. It is a uniqueness that isn't seen in many games and if you looking for something deep and different then this game holds the prime spot for being weird.
Deus Ex Human Revolution (PC)
There aren't many games around that gives you the amount of choices that deus ex offer. Usually a first person shooter will be on rails asking you to press x to continue or jump to enter another barrage of cut scenes. DE gets back to the PC gamer aspect of gaming where you would go about finding each secret on a level and make sure no one is left standing. The ability to drag and place items or npcs in the most awkward situations ever helps if you don't feel like finishing off a level just yet. While take downs are stilled world with action animations it isn't to bad when you consider the alternative was being sniped while having someone in an arm lock.
Skyrim (PC)
I never got into Oblivion or Morrowind the way I got into Skyrim. No more restictions on a build you can customize yourself as you carry on applying your perks to what you use the most. The open world varies enough to keep things looking interesting and the amount of quests is enough to match world of warcraft. Visually stunning and the people feel alive.

Portal 2 (PC)
Valve took a cold, mechanical puzzle game and added to it the childish joy of splashing paint around, exploration and atmosphere. The writing was fantastic and had me laughing out loud, the characters are some of the best in computer gaming history. An unexpected co-op mode, a prologue comic and developer commentary mode were the icing on the cake.
Games I have yet to play which could make the list: Dark Souls, Batman: Arkham City, Battlefield 3, Skyrim.

Skyrim gets my vote.
After WoW I swore off RPG's (MMO or otherwise) but this sucked me back in hard...
Should we create a poll?

WoW and other mmos doesn't end. You get to the point where you are on top only to be thrown down the next patch. Atleast Skyrim has an ending. Although I suppose you can go about afterwards and cause as much chaos as you still want to.

Good idea. Then every time someone adds a game you can add it to the poll and in the process delete all votes that have already been cast.jamin_za wrote: Should we create a poll?

Portal II and Skyrim are definites for me, and even though I'll only get to play it in Dec, most probably Arkham City.
Witcher II disappointed and we won't even mention Duke Nukem Forever...

Re: Your games of the year 2011
Maybe after 2 pages we can take the 10 most mentioned games and then make a poll. So hopefully we get more people to say what they liked.

Re: Your games of the year 2011
Afraid Uncharted 3 is that good?
Just remember that there came a few games out earlier in the year like Dragon age 2, Crysis 2, Dead Space 2, ect. Admitedly its easier to remember the last months blast of greatness.

Re: Your games of the year 2011
I cannot recommend any of this year's shooters, after having been inundated during shooter season 11, there's not one that really captivated me. The only FPS that really sucked me in was the Half Life series, 1 in particular.
