Is my System Shock 2 disc genuine?
Is my System Shock 2 disc genuine?
How do I tell? It looks closest to the disc on the right in this picture:
The blue is more of a purple on my disc.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that, unless it is made of jelly, that is in fact a genuine compact disc. The best way to tell for sure would be to place it inside a CD-ROM drive and see if the drive can in fact read data off the disc.

Genuine as in, not pirated!

Oh, right.
Isn't the more pertinent question whether the license that came with the disc is genuine?

Sigh, and google prevails.....
There are several ways to distinguish them. First and foremost, look at the bottom. Does the bottom look factory pressed? There are new types of recordable media on the market that have a "sliver" bottom. At a glance, these silver bottom CD-Rs look like authentic original copies, but if you hold them side by side with a true one, you can detect a hint of color(usually pale green) or a surface that is not quite as reflective as a factory-pressed disc. Looking at the label-side of the disc, there are some that are near impossible to distinguish from the original disc. Printers are available on the market that can create labels which print directly on the CD's surface( not on a stick-on), and some of them are of such high quality that you never know the difference.
Take a look at the inner ring of the disc near where the plastic is clear. Most times, the letters and numbers on this ring can only be read by looking at the playing side of the disc. ALL factory-pressed CDs will have the disc's catalog number imprinted into this inner ring. If it does not have it, you may have a fake one.

Yep, that's what's important. Who cares if the disc is legit. If it's got a legit licence, you're good.Stuart wrote:Oh, right.

That guy that used to mod cases. Now I take photos. True story.
Re: Is my System Shock 2 disc genuine?
I don't know if the licence is transferable, even if it is, I still need to know if the person I got the disk from held a licence in the first place. For that, I need to know if the disc is legit!Stuart wrote:Oh, right.

That's not really my concern though. I wouldn't get worked up (personally, EA may do as they please) over people pirating a game that can no longer be purchased, as no-one is losing revenue. I'm more concerned that this is my favouritest game evar and for sentimental reasons I want to know that it's legit. This kind of sentimentality isn't rational so don't ask me why.
