LGA2011 Sneak Peak - What You've Been Waiting For.

Post by Smilodon111 »

Hey guys,

it might be far from its release, but an underground chinese (always seems to be hey  ) has gotten hold a Lga2011 board for ivy bridge...

the photos are blurred out but the general idea of the layout can be seen...

as many have heard - the socket now has 2 latches for installing the cpu
Image

in this pic the focus is on the grid array
Image

and finally, the last pic is super blurred but if you look closely you'll see 2 Dimm slots on either side of the cpu (the whole quad memory in all its glory)
Image

..i for one cant wait for its release

You can never keep up with technology hey! Sandy bridge is barely out on shelves yet and there's something better on its way...
When can we expect to see these released?

yup - thats an MSI board, its said to be X68...but little is know this far.one thing im wondering about is if other LGA2011 boards will also have 4x DIMMS instead of 8? Come mid july, my i7 system will be sold off & then i wait 8)

Very Cool but why are Intel releasing more new sockets??.......can't they just have one that fits all like in the LGA 775 days, AMD is now the least confusing CPU manufacturer (a few years back it was the opposite)

i agree - there is a lot of rumors about other sockets aswell like LGA1356 so @ the end of the day nobody really knows whats gonna be the direct upgrade path from 1366.

the truth is that id rather grab a 980X than go LGA2011 cuz LGA1366 still has enough power & i reckon this chipset + LGA2011 Cpu + Quad ram is gonna be insane in price - i mean does anyone remember how much the first triple channel ram costed? i was crazy in price...

i wonder though if intel will be able to integrate DDR4 support in the cpu's since it's already been made - i mean 2x QPI links + Quad ddr4 = CRAZY bandwidth....

I still don't see why if you own a i7 already you'd want to go for the next one unless you have a money problem (the kind where you have too much). The current i7 still hasnt been saturated. And the further problem I have is from a gaming perspective we have all this lovely wonderfull hardware yet developers simply keep with the limits of the consoles. Where there are 10mil console there are 1mil pc. I really wish they would stop treating that 1 mil like dirt.

yea i know - i7 LGA1366 is as pc format also says - is over kill for any pc, nothing i know actually maxes it out but @ the same time, LGA2011 rather looks more like a server / workstation kind of build....the bandwidth will be crazy & the starting cores will be 8 core / 16 threads (although i wonder if it'll be 32nm or 22nm cuz the heat is a concern for me.the nice thing though is that LGA1366 coolers will be compatible with LGA2011, so i guess you save some money

P.S the reason we treated like dirt is cuz we the biggest pirates - well not us, but you get the picture

i know how you feel man, intels layout or rather, roadmap is like this:

1155 is the replacement for 1156 &
2011 is the replacement for 1366

they say Q4 2011 is the time released....

Still why not have one socket?.......I would rather go for AMD at this stage, but I will admit that the new Intel processors will be really fast in every way.

I know man, intel is selfish beyond comparison, why make money on jus a cpu when they can make money on a new socket aswell...they want 1 socket for mainstream & 1 for high end...but there 'mainstream' tends to be just as good as the high end, so its kinda pointless lol

i hear nvidia is getting licenses to make chipsets for the core i series which can be pretty interesting - especially for the nvidia boys.

I always find it funny how people wants new tech, but wants it compatible with old tech. Come on, its like buying a new car, but being unhappy that you can't use your old car's suspension, "because its still pretty good".

Personally I prefer to wait a year to see what works and what doesn't, and wait for teething problems to be sorted. I just received my Xeon and Asus workstation board. Its seems that the board had some issues on release, but it was fixed in later revisions. Buying it on Day 1, I may have had the troubles. Will have a look to upgrade again in 3 years time, then the LGA2011 tech is mature.
