My point is: What is the point of a 6 core AMD chip that doesnt beat the Intel 4 core?KillerByte wrote:there is point to be made with the X6... you are getting a 6 core processor for a R3000 rather than Intel's R10k for the 980X.
Yes its not as powerful but at R3k its not a bad chip

The 1050T competes more or less with the i5, no? Wouldn't it beat that pretty well? (i5 has only 4 threads)

Re: AMD vs. Intel
Well if you think of it in this way, you can always buy 3 x the AMD 6 core chips, find some genius way to connect it all, and then there you go 18 cores FTW, and then you should still save 1K, instead of going for the 980X

Re: AMD vs. Intel
THIS Hexus review paints a pretty satisfying picture in my opinion. The i5 price-performance crown has been well and truly taken over by the 1050T! I say bravo to AMD.

I also read somewhere that the turbo mode is an amazing feature that shuts down the inactive cores freeing up the cache for the active cores to use. Though I'm not too sure on the performance gains yielded by this.

If you have to choose between those two, go for the AMD.

Re: AMD vs. Intel
Out of those three cards, the 5870 would be the best option. That's if money isn't an issue. It's the best performer and doesn't suffer from heat problems like the nVidia 400-series.
If money is an issue, go for the 5850. It's a bit cheaper, but still a solid performer and if you have some extra cash later down the line, buy a second one and CrossFire it! Then watch your PC fly!
As for the CPU, go for the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition. Awesome little CPU! Was actually really considering this, but decided to stick with i7 for now because it's still slightly better for out and out gaming and because I'd already ordered my board.

Re: AMD vs. Intel
I'd say 5850/5870 over 470, and I'm a big nVidia fan...
ATI is WAY better than nVidia regarding power consumption and heat, but when cooled properly Fermi is absolutely amazing! I mean the 480, which is a single GPU card, completely spanks the 5970 dual GPU card in DX11 tests, especially tesselation...
ATI however, hits the price, performance, power consumption and heat issue perfectly when it comes to those level cards. If you were saying 480 or 5870 I would by FAR say 480, I mean damn, it's near 5970 performance on a single GPU. Fermi is fantastic, make no mistake...
Especially when watercooled and overclocked to obscene levels, hint hint nudge nudge...

Re: AMD vs. Intel
Well, unfortunately not all of us can afford to watercool our GPUs...
Otherwise I'd have Fermi as well... in fact, I'd have at least two!

Re: AMD vs. Intel
Well still waiting on the confirmation on the 470gtx review pcf did but I also judged the 5870 to be the best accross catagories. A less noisy, less power hungry and cooler running card than the 400 series. If ATI had physx it would have been perfect. I really cant complain with the 5870 but it was costly to get.

Re: AMD vs. Intel
Well, of the high-end cards, the 5870 is actually the cheapest at the moment. You can pick up a Club 3D 5870 from Ikonic IT for under R 4,100, which, for the performance you get, is cheap.
Lack of PhysX is definitely a problem for ATI, I bypassed that by getting a nVidia card for dedicated PhysX processing.

Re: AMD vs. Intel
I have a ATi card and googled how to run a dedicated physx card and toms hardware states that the latest Nvidia drivers disables physx when there is an ATI card present?
