Mana May be Replaced with Class-specific Resources in Diablo III
Blizzard's Diablo III Twitter account poses an interesting, potentially game-changing question.
How important do you think mana is to the Diablo universe? According to a recent post to Blizzard's official Diablo III Twitter feed, the developer/publisher is toying with the idea of nixing the traditional mana gameplay resource and instead replacing it with class-specific resources.
We're looking to give each class in Diablo III a unique resource system, instead of everyone using mana. Thoughts?

Whether or not public interest levels will be used to gauge the potential change remains to be seen. Such talk of a game-changing development of this magnitude might mean that the game is not all that close to being finalized.

Re: Diablo3! Announced!
Mana has been replaced in WoW with rage for warriors, energy for rogues and runic power for death knights. I wont be surprised if alot of the classes do indead have their mana replaced with another resource. But mana will still be one of the greater utilized sources otherwise. I cant see a paladin without it, I cant see a mage or anything that heals without it.
Monk can use adrenaline or something and Barbarian fury or rage.

Re: Diablo3! Announced!
Some people are getting agitated about this but I honestly don't see how this affects gameplay to any degree. So the little bottle in the bottom right of the screen will be green / yellow etc instead of blue and will be labelled "Rage / Energy" etc. instead of Mana. Same thing right?

Lies they only dropped potions to open up the hotkeys. Wonder if your gonna have self regeneration or if your reliant on health power ups. I think the people getting up in arms over the change are those that might not have played wow.
Yesterday was his first day that he learned about a mana shield. He never touched wow before and also never will but you can see the resemblance.

Sweet, now rusty has more time to watch the soccer World Cup.Toms Hardware wrote:No Diablo III in 2010
Last week in New York, Blizzard offered a product release roadmap (thanks Kotaku) for the next few years, showing what is to come in 2009, 2010, and a few years beyond. For this year, the company listed World of Warcraft only, however Blizzard obviously plans to provide content beyond 2011 with the release of Cataclysm in 2010 and other content beyond.
As for 2010, Blizzard also lists a few titles other than the World of Warcraft expansion. Included is the highly anticipated sci-fi RTS StarCraft II and the upgraded Battle.net. Also on Blizzard's list is "China Online," an entry we assume represents the updated version of World of Warcraft, specialized for the Chinese requirements.
But what isn't on the 2010 list is Diablo III. Gamers wanting the fantasy-themed action RPG may not see the game until 2011 or 2012 according to the presentation. This period of time will also host a few other titles however, including Blizzard's mystery "unannounced MMO" and the Star Craft II expansion. Battle.net also appears in the "next few years" category; we presume Blizzard will be making modifications and adding new features to the revamped service over the next three or so years.
It's unfortunate that Diablo III isn't making an appearance in 2010. As it stands, the game has been in development for four years, and may remain in development for a possible five. With that said, it may hit store shelves before Q4 2011, giving it a good six years to fester. Anything beyond that will make it qualified as a possible contender against Duke Nukem Forever.

Re: Diablo3! Announced!
Just grab torchlight.
I would have said since its blizzard 10 years for a sequel isnt that long. Warcraft 2 to warcraft 3 was a few years. But World of Warcraft has almost lasted longer than the gap between sequels. And with that said Blizzard isnt the Blizzard from 10 years ago either. Slowly but surely it has been turning into the next EA with grace. EA keeps popping out sequel after sequel while Blizzard keeps to 1 game for life.

Xiphan and others Torchlight and Diablo have the same music composer hence the reason why they sound similar. rusty I am with you Blizzard is off my list especially since they have been bought by Activision.

I'm not complaining, the only reason I bothered to try Torchlight was because it was made by some of the same people who made Diablo.Anakha56 wrote:Xiphan and others Torchlight and Diablo have the same music composer hence the reason why they sound similar. rusty I am with you Blizzard is off my list especially since they have been bought by Activision.

Are these the only 4 classes the game will have? Barberian, Witch docter, Wizard, Monk?
