CPU usage High spoolsv.exe

Post by DeeVeeDee »

I cant figure out why the spool service runs at 50% to 60% constantly on Windows 7

If i stop and start it its back to normal untill i use an application that uses it. I.E Crystal report, which uses the Spool service for page sizes.
Once Crystal reports is closed it still stays at 50% to 60% usage.
I went as far as scanning the pc with Symantec Endpoint and it didnt find anything.
I then used an ubuntu disk to boot live and replaced the spoolesv.exe with the original from a CAB file i found on the Windows7 disk.

Could this be CR that doesnt unload it self after it closes ? or does this sound malicious ?

There has been many reports of this (google suggests all)
Many say Windows update resolved this issue one-time

If anyone ever has this problem.

Stop the spooler service from the Services manager (Start run -> type services.msc)
find 'Print spooler' right click it and select stop.

Go to 'c:\windows\system32\spool' and delete all file inside the 'Printers' folder (which is cache)
Then go back to services and start the print spooler.

Problem solved, i'm a happy chappy 8)
