All about Smartphones and Tablets...
Re: All about Smartphones and Tablets...
Ye it's an attractive interface - but that's something that any UI skin can replicate. I'm more concerned with how it's going to differentiate itself - atm it's restricting hardware manufacturers to a very narrow specification - I'm worried that all Winmo7 phones are going to be homologous.

@ADT yeah we discussed this at college. its shocking that they have not come up with other plans yet. they need t get this done and implement it so that the average user won't even notice the transitions.

The "other plan" is IPv6. It just suffers from a lack of decent implementation.
I personally think this is totally blown out of proportion - the vast majority of those devices will be behind a single NATted address.

Btw about 70-80% of all routers on the net are already IPv6 capable and some of them even encapsulate the IPv4 packets in IPv6 packets depending on where the message is going.

Great success! Growing in leaps and bounds I say...
SourceCanalys: Android takes Q2 smartphone market share lead in US with 886 percent year-over-year growth
We knew Android phones were selling like gangbusters -- Google has been none too shy in telling us as much -- but numbers were slightly less clear in a larger context. Well, if a new report by Canalys is to be believed, those numbers are just fine in a larger context. Canalys claims that in Q2 Android was up a whopping 886 percent over last year's sales during this time period (remember, the original Droid didn't come out until November), and those wild sales put it at 34 percent of the US market, compared to RIM's 32 percent and Apple's 21.7 share. Of course, RIM has a big launch on the way, and we're not sure how much of the iPhone 4's heady run this report captures, so things could naturally look different for Q3. Also, it's worth noting that the breakdown of phones actually in use is of course dramatically different. Still, nobody is doing that bad: the smartphone market is up 64 percent year-over-year, and Apple and RIM grew 61 percent and 41 percent, respectively. Oh, and remember Nokia? Yeah, they're still beating the world with a 38 percent market share and 41 percent growth. Check out the press release after the break for all the percentages your heart could ever desire.

Re: All about Smartphones and Tablets...
Howdy folks!I am looking to get a new phone soon (currently have a Nokia N95 8GB).I think the time has come to move from Symbian to Android. I am looking for an HTC (or rather 'a HTC' ? Not sure which is grammatically correct.) that will work on South African networks. I know about the Evo 4G and the Incredible, but sadly neither will work on our GSM-based South African networks. They are CDMA and thus do not use SIM cards. Can anyone recommend a good HTC smartphone (Android 2.1 or later, Sense and Wi-Fi is definately necessary)?
The Desire seems to be getting a lot of praise. Any good? Or is there better available?
IPhone doesn't interest me, due to its poor multi-tasking among other things. So please, HTC only.Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Re: All about Smartphones and Tablets...
Hi guys, how about some advice please.
I'm looking for a phone for my wife for a present. It must be a budget level smart phone. A touch screen with a qwerty keyboard (touch or slide) are the basic requirements. It would be used obviously as a phone and then a social networking device, such as facebook and thirdly a camera (don't need quality here) If it makes any difference, it's going to be on prepaid.
Budget I'm looking at is about R1500, not more.
So far, I've found this: http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/LG-Xeno ... _2167.html
What I really like about it, is the slide out qwerty so you still have nice screen size and none of the reviews really say it's a crap phone.
It's seems perfect but I can't find a local price or even if I can buy it locally. It goes for about $150.
It says the phone is by AT&T, does that mean I have to be with AT&T to get one or they just produce the phones or what?
I've also looked at the samsung Corby (This isn't a nice phone and I dont like the small screen)
And the Nokia 5230 - On my reasearch this would be my 2nd choice after the LG but I think this is above my budget.
What would you guys advise to someone who's never had a smart phone. I just prefer the R200 phones to use as a phone so I don't have much experience in this field.
