Windows 7 Widescreen Resolutions and Nvidia Drivers

Post by Jonboy »

Morning all,

Apologies if this query has already been posted in the 22" thread, I just don't have the time to go through all those pages.

Yesterday I finally took the plunge to Windows 7, 32bit. The problem is, my Geforce 9800 straight out refuses to recognise resolutions beyond 800x600, 16 bit with the Nvidia 191.07 drivers. I've tried older drivers and am now downloading the latest drivers, but if anybody else had this issue, how did you resolve it?

Thanks,

J

Drivers :) That's a driver issue :)

So once you've downloaded and installed the new ones, update us :)

Try disabling automatic updates, removing the drivers and reinstalling.

Okay, so I've tried all of the above, and scoured the net, and while there's actually a bunch of people with the same issue, there's no fix yet, it's maddening, if I can't get it sorted I'm reverting back to XP until there's a working set of drivers. The latest 196 drivers don't even help. I've uninstalled the graphics card, let Windows detect it and let it install the drivers from 173 to 196 (sequentially) - no dice. I've updated the screen drivers - no dice.

It's maddening, all I want to do is install and play my Company of Heroes Anthology I got at Musica for R80! Apparently the issue has something to do with the drivers not talking to the monitor / not recognising the EDID (whatever that is).

Have you tried setting the resolution in the nvidia control panel?

I have indeed, I've run driver cleaner and reinstalled all drivers, I've tried using Powerstrip to force the resolution and it won't budge from 800x600 16bit colour. The minute I uninstall the driver, the resolutions unlock. Why Nvidia, why?
