Comodo? The training is a bit of a pain, but it works well once you eventually have everything set up.

You don't need a firewall you need Comodo Pro.

Man, I don't even use a 3rd party firewall anymore. I just use the one that ships with Windows.

Yeah, I know.

I'm with you on that one.

Haven't had any issues with Windows Firewall. Been using it since my Vista days.

Its also one less thing to install.

Seriously though, I don't see anything wrong with the Windows firewall. I've been using it for ages (Since Win 7 RC1) and paired with a good antivirus, it does the job. My PC is absolutely fine :)

Do we really even need firewalls :?:

Nobody wants to get onto your computers and delete your MP3's and pictures you took of your private parts.... they really don't.

And if a determined, experience hacker ever did want to, you'd need a proper (read: hardware) firewall. As good as software firewalls claim to be they just aren't.

You are right sir they don't want to delete them, they want to copy them.

Then we should thank telkom for our crap upload speeds.

+1. Nobody cares enough about me or any content on my machine to hack my PC. There's nothing on my machine that you can't get off ThePirateBay much faster.

hmm, was going to ask why one should need a firewall if you use the Win wall... I use it purely to see where i'm going and to block me from going places where i should not. Just as i use my script programme...
"Integrity" and "integer" both contain a Latin root meaning "whole; complete." The root sense, then, is that people may be said to be acting with integrity when their beliefs, words, and actions have a sense of unity or wholeness.

it isn't so much about preventing access as preventing your floozy of a windows box from joining the millions of botnet nodes already infesting the internet... that and playing victim to spoof attacks...

jamin's correct in saying that nobody is interested in the private user... unless, of course, you're pushing data out on steam/WoW ports, (or similar services), where the likelihood of leeching account and/or banking detail is good... then your risk profile is raised a notch or two.

the only software firewall i've used which behaves like a hardware solution is outpost. all others fall somewhat short of the bar.

the windows variant is ok, but it's still reactive, (it only stealths a port AFTER it has determined the port is being targeted), and it can be silently disabled, which is a bonus if you're looking to use the machine to pump unsolicited mail....

given that the odds are roughly dependent on browsing habits, (and the apparent need to install whatever dodgy software we can get our grubby paws on), i don't believe there is a sound argument against the use of a decent firewall.

actually, having a dodgy firewall does more damage because the user really does enjoy a false sense of security.

StarBound, I'd go for Comodo Firewall.

I'm using it a home, and it is awesome. Initially, the firewall may be a pain in the a$$, due to it having to learn your apps and habits. But it is easy enough to allow or disallow these popups.

Comodo also has a nice "Defence" function which shows you what processes are connected and how much bandwidth they've consumed. How many processes (and what they are) are currently connected inbound and outbound.

Comodo have also tried to make life easier, in the sense that if you are attempting to install and application that requires Internet access (Google Chrome for example), you can simply put the Comodo firewall into "Installation Mode" so that it doesn't ask you (or block you) at every single change the installation wants to make.
