unless something has changed fairly recently, you can only do crossfire on two of exactly the same cards. which means 2 x 4670 1GB or 2 x 4830 1GB.

i do recall reading something about that, though I obviously wasn't paying too much attention, and suddenly the hybrid crossfire on newer boards makes sense

Update

So over the weekend I crossfired my 1GB 4850 (Asus) with my bro's 512MB 4830 (Sapphire). And yes, it works... So that answers a lot of questions about mixing cards.CCC only gives you a warning about the cards not matching.

One thing I had to do was swap the 4830 to my first slot, I guess this was caused by the memory difference.

The only game I benchmarked was Far Cry 2, I went from +- 45 to 75 on 1920x1200, ultra high, no AA

I down clocked the 4850 to the 4830's speed, but later saw, that the 4830 can match the core and memory speed of my 4850.

I didn't actually benchmark Crysis but my frames with the Natural Mod enabled went from +-30 to over 40, which isn't much of an increase, but really makes the difference between choppy and totally smooth, because of the increase in the min frame rate.

As you can see, I didn't benchmark a lot, I just checked for stability etc, and was pleasantly surprised.

LMAO double fost from a forum noob and a idiot. BTW its a well known fact that 4800 series gpu's can crossfire with each other. but for intrest sake if you run a 4870 with a 4850 it will effectively be 4850 crossfire. same with any other cards from ati
