Re: PCF LAN - 3rd & 4th April 2009
Now what? How can you leave us like that?
Re: PCF LAN - 3rd & 4th April 2009
lolz...
I like it when the white smoke comes out
Well, everything was going perfectly untill Fourways High had a little bump with the electricity.
Although everything was working perfectly after it was tested... So it definatly was not the equipment that was being used and not the fault of any of the organisers of the LAN.
Pitty, everything seemed to be going really well. Quite a disappointment.

Ya, ouch! I hope that its just your PSU thats damaged and nothing else.ThRoTtLe wrote:Yeah....I think Im gonna change my nick from 'ThRoTtLe' to.....'White Smoke'....sigh.

I switch my PC off at the socket (and even unplug) , the minute the power goes off.
Can I make a suggestion for the PCf team for next time, see if you can get a company like Meisener or APC to sponsor the loan of a big UPS to run all the PC's through.
Never again will i risk running my pc without a UPS, even if i have to bring my own.
The Lan was awesome fun while it lasted. thanks Guys.

You were the guy with the PSU and not the monitor?ThRoTtLe wrote:Yeah....I think Im gonna change my nick from 'ThRoTtLe' to.....'White Smoke'....sigh.

At first I thought it was all a hoax. I was rather near when the monitor started smoking, I thought someone put a smoke bomb there or something.
Then after everyone gathered I realised it wasn't
Then pop, and white smoke once again flooded the surrounding area. It stinks as well.
What PSU was it BTW? Just curious.

The PSu was an Aerocool HP1020 1Kw and my dads (uNcL3) monitor that was plugged into the same power point.PsyCLown wrote:You were the guy with the PSU and not the monitor?ThRoTtLe wrote:Yeah....I think Im gonna change my nick from 'ThRoTtLe' to.....'White Smoke'....sigh.

Fortunately my monitor and his PC used a different plug point, so those devices were ok. It was only those 2 items that used that specific 220V plug, that were damaged.
I spoke to an electrician friend of mine and he said when they use the 220V leg of 3 phase power, and the cable melts (neutral) in the db, then it dumps the 380V onto the 220V plugs. Very nasty.....VESS....
I checked the 4870x2 and it seems to be ok, so Im hoping the motherboard is also ok.
And I was so looking forward to the COD4 clan comp. We'll just have to do it again next time.
The smell in the car on the way home was terrible, had to ride with the windows open.

A lesson in this current SA - ALWAYS make sure you take the hamsters with to the LAN....
"Integrity" and "integer" both contain a Latin root meaning "whole; complete." The root sense, then, is that people may be said to be acting with integrity when their beliefs, words, and actions have a sense of unity or wholeness.
Re: PCF LAN - 3rd & 4th April 2009
ThRoTtLe, choo making smellies in the car for? sies, man!
jee, good plan ... hamsters are slaves, mice have been emancipated
so exactly how long did this lan last before the fireworks?

Hamsters cost a fortune in our country - the only reliable power source.
