INTRODUCING THE MiWi

Post by tjecco »

I Have no idea where to post this but anyway.

INTRODUCING THE MiWi - SOON TO BE IN SOUTH AFRICA

Here’s the latest, greatest, phoniest knock-off console to surface from China. While the MiWi video game system might steal some of its looks from the Nintendo Wii, that’s about where the similarities end.

Image

Created by China’s Eittek Electronics, the 9800 MiWi video game system comes with a pair of wireless controllers which do their best to mock Wii-motes. Heck, even the logotype on the packaging looks strikingly similar to the Wii’s.

But these guys didn’t stop at swiping their ideas from current-gen Nintendo consoles. Notice how the MiWi’s joystick bears more than a passing resemblance to the classic N64 controller (in white)?

Image

The MiWi claims to play WiiSports-esque games including boxing, ping pong, tennins, golf, baseball, soccer and bowling, but from the look of the cartridges it includes, don’t count on anything more than a retro 16-bit gaming experience. The best news about the MiWi is that it packs in a whopping 23 games in the box, so your chances of them all sucking equally are reduced. Then again, I’ve been wrong before.

If you’re really dying to get your hands on one of these oddities, good luck. Brush up on your Chinese, and head on over to TV Sportsgame.

I feel this type of thing should be banned from our markets. They copy the shape of the console everyone knows about but none of the features. To the casual gamer he only sees a Wii at a fraction of the cost. When he tries to put in a Wii game, big surprise, no cd tray or cd inlet in the futuristic looking Wii.

Same thing happened to people that thought the gamestation was a playstation 2.

Stop confusing our consumers. Ban china!

Yeah, i don't see what's the big deal. This console's controllers look like that of a Wii, so what?

The 360 and PS3 controller look similar too, so should one of those consoles be banned? No.

It's a completely different gaming system, but it's got motion controls too. Within 5 years you won't get a console that DOESN'T have motion controls.

I don't know. I think that a bigger deal is being made than necessary. I don't see how this company is doing ANYTHING illegal. Their console looks like a Wii. Whoop dee doo. My Sony TV looks like my mum's Panasonic, so should my Sony be banned?

The Touch HD and the iPhone look Similar. Any banning going on there?

The deal is some casual gamer or worse a mom will go into a shop and see 2 consoles. A Wii and a MiWi. Both almost look the same, have the same type of advert and the rip looks futuristic. Mom buys the kid the much cheaper wii and only later finds out its not the real deal. Can a shop be fully held responsible for this or will it come down to the "too stupid to know" consumer?

Like I said earlier the difference between the Playstation 2 and gamestation 2 was a dvd drive, ps2 games, and a more than R1000 price tag. And people fell for it.

I really feel that this type of selling should be banned.

they're buying a console... what do you expect to discover... an IQ of 500+?

i have to admit i find your ranting about this rather... endearing.. your particular brand of gormless tyranny has always evoked a bit of the chuckle in me...

"The consumer needs to be protected from his/her self!"... priceless... exactly the sort of thing the pommies have bought into...

Glad I do amuse at least someone on the forum :)

But you cant call me wrong. Sure for us that are interested in computers and games we know the difference. But come now to someone that a game is just a game, pacman or crysis, doesn't matter to the person buying. To a sales man its just trying to push sales figures.

Maybe your right though. Why should I care if we get all this crap. Sure it looks like the better thing and doesn't play like the better thing. The poor person receiving it will probibly cry his eyes out but its ok. Or maybe he/she might be lucky to actually play a video game for once in their lives. I really do feel this type of marketing shouldn't be allowed.

Frankly it look a blatant Rip off of the Wii. But its sales will be dismal and in a year it will have faded into oblivion

Sure but don't make it look like the better product. Make it look like either the super nintendo or the sega megadrive. That is most probibly the games from those systems anyway. Crushing peoples hopes and dreams shouldn't be the basis for marketing.

If the consumer doesn't educate him/herself before buying something its his/her fault. If you are buying something like an console some though/research should go into it. If you don't do that well that's too bad for you.

If a person is stupid enough to buy this thinking it is a wii, then they deserve this.

On the other hand it does look like it can be some fun even if it is uber cheapness.
