hey guys
I probably didn't mention this before, but, i'm a computer technician(kind of), I've got a slight problem... I've recently added a windows 2008 server to windows sbs at 2 of the sites the company I work for takes care of, but the local admin accounts seem to have vanished on both server 2k8 machines, anyone know if this is normal, or if I do need to get them back ?
server 2008 on sbs 2003
As far as i know this is normal.
To use the local Admin account you need to choose the "LOCAL" domain.
I.E when logging into Windows change the Domain to the "SERVER-NAME" entry and log in with the local admin account. you will not have access to the other machines on the Domain.
as soon as you join a domain, the domain controller's Group Policys take preference, and that includes security. hence needing the Domain admin password to log on with admin rights.
I guess its time for all the Techies to do the MCSE upgrade

There might have been a stuff-up on the machine when you joined it to the domain or something and that local account got corrupted...
I'm not that clued up on 2K8, but can you still see the account in the local users folder in Computer Management?
Also, what Mozz said - if you dcpromo'd that box or gave it a GP for domian controllers it would behave like this...

Well there you go then.an00bis wrote:yes I did dcpromo the box
You're not going to see any Local Accounts folder in Computer Management now because domain controllers don't have local accounts...
