Re: Need help recovering Win7 on laptop
hman is perfectly correct. One thing I have learned (re-learned?) is that the staff at IC know absolutely jack about how things work. I had to explain the problem to them and they still didnt understand the concept of tattoo-ing or fingerprint matching between motherboard and HDD. *sigh* Its really ...

Re: Need help recovering Win7 on laptop
Thanks man - I'll keep you posted as to how things pan out. What? I'm shocked! Microsoft's biggest fan working with Linux professionally? Amazing! How times have changed. I think I've been away from the forums for too long. (belated) Welcome to the *nix world - we have been expecting you ;-) ...and ...

Re: Need help recovering Win7 on laptop
Hey Jamin - howzit going? ;-) Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Yes, the person who sold me the laptop (salesman at Incredible Deception) told me the recovery cd's are in the box. My ignorance had a part to play with it (first brand new laptop I've bought) and I wasn't aware of the "tatoo&qu...

Need help recovering Win7 on laptop
Hi, I recently bought a Packard Bell notebook with a Win7 Home Premium licence. I told the salesman I want to use Linux on the laptop and he said it would not invalidate my warranty. He also told me that the recovery cd's are in the box. So, I formatted the disk and installed Mint....which has been ...

Re: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal
Any of you running 11.04 on a Sandy Bridge CPU? I have a strange problem where the machine will freeze just after the splash screen appears. If I am persistent enough and try again and again....it will eventually boot into the GUI. This is the problem with both Ubuntu and Kubuntu. The Live CD works ...

Re: Behringer BCD3000 turntable Latency Issue
Does your BCD3000 have an onboard sound card or do you need to use an external sound card? A friend recently imported a Hercules e2 with which he needs to use an external USB sound card. He had the same problem and brought his system over for me to have a look. I changed a setting in device manager ...

Will install tonight. Anybody knows when Lubuntu will be released? I still the the Beta version availabl...

Re: PC wont POST
Thanks for trying to help MadFrog. I brought the machine home, and tested with my wife's PSU (also a Codegen 400W) and everything is fine. Machine POSTed first time and eveything works fine. Turns out the 500W ProCase we had at the office was faulty as well! The PSU is still under warranty (bought i...

Thanks for the response.
I checked the caps on the board. No obvious damage, no funny smell, and no swelling.

Re: 2.0 speaker advice needed
Picked up an Altec Lansing PT6021 set this morning..... http://www.alteclansing.com/images/product_image_large/pt6021.jpg The sound is phenomenal. Might be a bit bright for some people - but I like a lot of highs in my music. More than enough bass, and the frequencies are nice and low. I think the s...

Re: 2.0 speaker advice needed
Prime - thanks for the response. I thought about that - the bonus of going that route is that I will have an FM tuner as well. I dont believe though, that a minii hi-fi for < R2000 would sound the same as an entry level set of professional monitors. I might be wrong though. Problem is, the monitors ...

2.0 speaker advice needed
Hi, Looking for a pair of active 2.0 speakers for use in my living room. I dont want any big, booming sound or anything with subwoofers. I have a HT setup in my TV room and a pair of floor-standing speakers in my study which I use to mix music. I just need something for background music in the livin...

Re: The 22" LCD Thread
screeper - thats a good price for a 24" LCD. Whats the difference between it and the 2494HS? Is it physically bigger? The resolution seems the same, but the response time seems a bit better. I prefer the matte look of the 2494HS - but this 24" seems like a better buy (especially for the pr...

Thanks - I should actually give Xubuntu a shot. I used to run it on an old Duron 800 (in the days or version 6xx) and it ran fine.
Will give it shot on the eee pc when I get a chance.

Re: Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04
Ouch. Can't you rig a bigger SSD? Nope - the SSD is soldered onto the mobo. Its cool though, I primarily use the eee pc to stream mp3 and divx from my main PC to my HT system in my loung. XP does a good enough job for that. I just wanted to mess around with Netbook remix to see what its all about. ...
