ATI... erm, AMD vs nVidia!
Re: ATI... erm, AMD vs nVidia!
Now for the AMD 8xxx series! And nVidia 7xx series.
Titan is just an insane, over the top, ridiculously expensive toy for those with too much money.

Re: ATI... erm, AMD vs nVidia!
The 7970 might be stronger in computing performance, but I'm pretty sure where gaming is concerned it's going to bend over and get shafted by the Titan.
Re: ATI... erm, AMD vs nVidia!
It will most certainly. At many times the price! If it sells for $900 in the US, then we'll get it at something like R14k at least....

Well, the GTX 690 wasn't going for much less than that when it was first released.

I just don't get it. $1000 dollars on a graphics card? That is ridiculous!
My system specs are in my sig. On occasion I think to myself: "hey, maybe I should upgrade?", but then I think back and realise that my system still handles everything I throw at it. Maybe not at ultra-super-duper detail, but I am not running anything at ultra-super-low detail either.
And the guy on Toms is recommending you use it in SLI? WHY?

Because you can? I want one but A) my card does 120fps which B) already matches my screens 120hz refreshrate with vsync in most games. But I guess friday all this will change when C) Crysis 3 is released.GreyWolf wrote:And the guy on Toms is recommending you use it in SLI? WHY?

Re: ATI... erm, AMD vs nVidia!
So here is the benchmark results from toms:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gef ... ,3442.html
and anandtechs:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6774/nvid ... e-unveiled
I have to say it is very underwhelming. It is reaching for a new price point when my expectation is come next years new generation of cards we might just see that performance at the $500 mark. And then let's not forget that the gtx670 is a mere 5% slower than the gtx680 at 25% less the cost. So does 2 gtx670s in sli beat a titan?

Re: ATI... erm, AMD vs nVidia!
I think my 660 Ti cards are on par with a Titan, so two 670s are definitely stronger.
The Titan is very pricey, but I can understand the reason behind it. Would I buy one if I had the money? Probably not. I'd still rather go for the GTX 690.

Re: ATI... erm, AMD vs nVidia!
Well its not as clear cut as the i7 3930k and 3960X. I mean double the price and only <5% performance difference ...something like 1-2%. Would I buy one if I take everything into consideration? No because if money is not a factor then I wouldn't care about the power consumption either. I want one and despite crysis 3 running like it does the 680GTX does a bang up job in every game. Doubtless if I drop that 1 setting I could probably speed the game up by 20-50% and get the game running in the 60fps marks.

Re: ATI... erm, AMD vs nVidia!
The GTX 780 renders Titan rather a bit pointless. The performance is certainly not far-off and for a bit more than the price of one Titan, you can SLi two 780s. Anyone who's recently purchased a Titan (or two or three), will be pretty much banging their head against the wall in frustration at the money they've wasted.

Re: ATI... erm, AMD vs nVidia!
I posted this before I read it. I can't say that it is worth going for either titan or gtx780 over a gtx680 purely from the power consumption and price points. I think the cards are appropriately priced but a new price tier is created which should not have been done.
I'm throwing this in because it is more relevant than it was with xbox 360 and ps3 but the ps4 and X1 specs is in some ways better than your budget system and pricing I assume will be lower than a single card.

Nope, cos the people who bought the titan will be like: "F U! Mines s still 2 frames/s quicker. Why are you so poor?"Mystical_Titan wrote:Anyone who's recently purchased a Titan (or two or three), will be pretty much banging their head against the wall in frustration at the money they've wasted.

Re: ATI... erm, AMD vs nVidia!
It's true what GreyWolf said: Anyone who's looking at the 780 or Titan is has got enough money not to care about power consumption or $. At that end of the scale, there is no argument for that, 'cause the people that shop there are the kind that buy what they want, when they want.StarBound wrote:I posted this before I read it. Re: ATI... erm, AMD vs nVidia!
I'm more of that it must be better in all aspect camp so it needs less power and provides a substantial improvement. I mean the gtx680 vs gtx580 was 40% faster with 25% less power usage. I call that an all out win. Obviously you need to sacrifice the power aspect going forward for a while but then we are back at the 240+ consumption and not really another 40% speed increase this time.

Re: ATI... erm, AMD vs nVidia!
Then you're better off looking in the mid-range segment, since you don't seem to understand what the 780 is. It almost performs on par with a TITAN. Do you know what the Titan is?StarBound wrote:I'm more of that it must be better in all aspect camp so it needs less power and provides a substantial improvement. It's anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 times faster than a 580 and draws less power. If that's not 'FTW', then I don't know what is. So what if it draws more power than a 680? It's A LOT faster too. Or do you want a high-end GPU that runs off a AAA battery? Quit your whining.

Re: ATI... erm, AMD vs nVidia!
So the GTX770 has been reviewed.
Price, cheaper than a gtx680
Performance, between the gtx680 and gtx780
Power consumption, between the gtx680 and gtx780
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gef ... ,3519.html
I think considering the price this is the card to look for however if you own a gtx670 or gtx680 your better off waiting and if you wanted any of those 2 you might just opt for the 770 instead.

Oh no! It draws more power than the 680 and it doesn't offer a 40% increase in performance! Whatever shall we do?!
