Damn, ok. But the problem is I've tried the multiplier at 10x. No dice. Won't even post. I'll see if I can drop the dimm voltages.

Ok, had a few problems, managed to drop the dimm voltages to 1.92V which seems to be the default. Memory timings are on auto, looks to be 5-5-5-13, stil DDR 667 @ 450MHz, still 9x multiplier for 2.25GHz...

Any other suggestions?

Can you overvolt the CPU? Sometimes just a small nudge will give you good results. My X2s default was 1.35V and I pushed it from 2.0Ghz - 2.6Ghz with a 0.15V overvolt, got it to post at around 2.75Ghz but didn't get it stable. But I had good cooling, top end air and then water. On the stock cooler I got it to 2.4Ghz but it was cooking under Prime95 and a small overvolt. I'm sure your AM2 CPU has more room than my old S939 one. Also you need to make sure that your LDT/HTT multiplier is set to 4x if you're using 250Mhz FSB. IIRC the AM2 boards had much more headroom on that bus (1000Mhz limit on S939) but maybe it's worth making sure it's not at 5x (or default).

I don't like using auto on settings like memory timing, you should manually enter them. The mobo sometimes chooses the wrong ones or does funny things when you're overclocking.

Thanks Hex. The HTT/LDT multiplier, is that the same as the HT multiplier, cause that's what it's called on my board. :? I'll check for that and the timings. will let you know if I manage anything :P

EDIT:

So... I managed to get the cpu multiplier to 10x (2.45GHz), but I had to drop the bus speed back to +45MHz overclock (total 245), and timings at 6-6-5-13 2T command rate.

This is all well and good, but with timings like that, will there actually be a performance increase :?:

EDIT2:

2.75GHz @ 11x multi, 4x HT multi, 250MHz clocks speed and the ram reports as 458MHz... 6-6-6-13 timings.
Anyone there...??

Can you boot at that speed? RAM is running at DDR2-916 effective.

I read up on google, saw some oke hit same cpu speed at 10x multi, but he had ddr2 800's to play with, and he used a 275 clock speed, with an Asus nforce 590-based board, if I remember correctly. virtual-hideout.net. But I just have one nagging question that no one has answered yet. My timings of 6-6-6-13, that's low, right? Is it even worth the bother of oc'ing?

You need to bench and decide for yourself, some apps will like the high clocks and will not care about the latencies and some will be the opposite. AMD CPUs are more dependent on good RAM than Intel, they (the press) made a big noise about AM2 when it launched because it only was better than socket 939 (which used normal DDR400) when you used DDR2-800 @ 4-4-4-12 which was very expensive back then. But because you've raised your CPU clock so much you will probably see big boosts across the board, I can't tell you for sure. The only way is to see for yourself.

Benchmark some games (even older games will work) but drop their detail and resolution to the minimum (even as low as 640x480 if possible), they'll look like crap but they'll remove the GPU from the equation and give you an indication of what is better, tighter timings or better clocks. Write the scores in an excel spreadsheet and then you can decide if it's worth it. It also depends on what you do (gaming, office work, encoding/ripping, photoshop, etc).

I only noticed you have a single core now, this will probably benefit more from higher clocks and less from tighter latencies because there's only 1 core to feed. Just an educated guess.

Keep in mind that large increases in voltage aren't good for the components, small increases don't make big differences but when you put 2.4V through chips which are only specced for 1.8V failures could occur. Which is why I'll never buy second hand components from certain people. :P

Thanks a lot for all the advice. I'll do some of the benching then. I've already noticed a huge difference in Turok though, so I'm guessing overall the performance is up a bit.

As for the voltages, I only added 0.15v to the cpu, and the ram uses 1.92, which seems to the default.

I OVERCLOCKED A P4 2.8Ghz 100% TO 5.6Ghz
AND A AM2 6+ ALSO 100% TO OVER 12 Ghz
I JUST WANT TO KNOW IS THERE A BOTTLE NECK ON THE M/BOARD
OR WILL THE M/BOARD ALSO BE RUNNING OVERCLOCKED
THANKS

Ok , walmar .

Welcome to the forum. :D Hope you enjoy your stay here.

Couple of things. In order for us to assist you with your problem we will need some stats.

Cooling you used on the PC's .
CPU-z validation links and or screenshots.
Motherboard models and bios revisions.

If you have indeed reached these clocks we would love to see and find out how you did it.

Better Voodoo ?

And to answer your question. If you have gotten any processor to run at 12Ghz . The motherboard will indeed be a bottleneck .
