Must admit, the last time I tried blender I also found it extremely confusing. 3D studio Max is much easier (not quite as cheap though :) )

Still, maybe the new one is better

The only reason I stopped using Blender, is coz the interface was a little dodgy.

Seems to have improved though ....... maybe I'll give it another run.

Well the blender interface is totally different. I found 3dsmax confusing because I got to know Blender first, and Max isn't even remotely the same. It depends on what you're familiar with.

OK lets put some misconceptions to rest. Blender is a freeware 3D moddeling app that delivers quite a punch for such a lightweight app. I've rendered scenes with blender that you wouldn't think possible with anything other than Max, Maya and the likes. The interface is tricky at first but the key to having fun with Blender is to learn the keyboard shortcuts. Trust me, it's worth it. The added bonus is that ther is a lot of add-on scripts to help you build anything from trees to humans. You can also use the Yafray plugin to do advance raytracing for a realistic rendering. But you have to work through the manual and learn how to use Blender in order to appreciate the experience.

Or you can pay R20000.00 for 3DS Max.

Blender is one of the few freeware 3D apps that has constantly maintained a large userbase over the years. In fact, it's gaining new users everyday. I'd say that Blender and Wings 3D are probably the two finest freeware 3D apps available these days, and are an excellent way for newcomers to get their feet wet in modeling and rendering without having to pay the large pricetags that accompany the big commercial applications.

I always recommend both these applications to people who want to start out in 3D. Although I must admit I never quite got the hang of Blender myself hehe.

Which is better/easier, Blender or Wings3D?

That depends entirely on the person... different people find different things easy.

I should mention though that Wings doesn't have a renderer.
