I think My scores are too low!

Post by Gruffy »

Hi there.
I got a P4 3gig ht with 1024 megs of ram, an msi motherboard, two 80 gig hard drives and a geforce fx5700.

Its not the best but Im sure it is sort of potent!

My problem is I only get 11442 in 3dmark 2001
and 3080 in 2003

Any suggestions? :?:

What drivers are you using?

Actually it isn't all that unexspected.

I had a AMD 1700 with Radeon 96pro and I scored 9000 in 3dmark2001SE. When I got my AMD 3000 it went up to 11000 (which is far to slow for a system like this).

Before buying a gf6800 I ran the benchmark again to see if the drivers improved things but to my surprize I scored 9000 again which is way to bad for a 96pro. And the gf6800 scored 14000. Some of tomshardware scored where better. The radeon 97pro score on a AMD 1800 was better than what I got.

Anyway, your scores look like they are where they should be. Perhapes an extra 100 on the 2003 and 2000 max on the 2001SE.

Have you tried DOWNgrading your drivers? It will push up your benchmark scores but seriously hurt your games performance. Otherwise go for the new 66.xx drivers.

When I ran 3d Mark 2001 with my Geforce FX 5200 I also though my score was too low.

Compared to that I've seen other people get your scores look about right.

I know there are drivers that improve your 01 mark and others that improve your 03 mark. Not sure which ones those would be those.

I just run the benchmarks with the most recent drivers, can't be bothered messing around with drivers.

Gruffy , your marks are what they should be...

You 3dMark01 scores are mainly on CPU , hence it is what it is needed....

Your 3dMark03 is based on grpahics cards and hence , seeing as your card is slightly outdated , it is that low...

With my Geforce fx5900XT I get around 3850 to 4000 {Depends on how clean my system is} in 2003 , but seeing as I only have a Athlon 1200 and 256mb ram I dont get near 10 000 in 2001...

I agree with Slasher your mark is exactly where it should be the 5700 is a slow card with the same system (almost) I get 43 000 Auamarks and 6 200 in 3DMARK03.

Well I get 15036 on 3DMARK2001 and I have a 3Ghz and a GeForce 5900 so that is quite right for a 5700

The CPU is the main peanut in 3D Mark 2001
Then why does he get 11442 and I get 15036 with the same chip?
Both Intel Pentium 4 3.Ghz

The Difference is that I have a 5900!!!
Look at your score you also probably have a 5900 or equivalant to get that score

True, this is a graphics benchmark, but the CPU plays a major role in 2001. if you overclock your CPU by a little margin , you will see the increase in the score, but not that much with the new versions of the benchmark programs

YES, NOW WHAT YOU SAY THAT IS CORRECT!!! The CPU makes much more of a difference in 2001 than the others!!!

I think your all wrong. My specs are below and I scored 8000 on 01 with the same system I have now but with a Radeon 9200 256Mb (and I overclocked it like a BI**H!). Now with my new card(No Oc or Softmod) I get 14000, Explain that? 3D Mark apps test your 3D performance, thats what they do. CPU doesnt make that much difference! For ex. My friend has the same system as me except a Nvidia fx 5200 + 3 Ghz (I only had R9200 and 2.8Ghz). My score on 01 and 03 beat his.....which proves CPU makes basically no difference.

It may not seem like it but other factors also contribute to the test like a clean install of windows with no programmes running in the back ground and ram timings. Your friend my have programmes running in the back ground that he is not aware of or cannot see running. One them is anti virusses which can slow your pc quite a bit down.

When I still had my FX5200 I benchmarked it against my brothers P4 2ghz with 1GB Ram bus and a 128mb mx440 which wiped the floor with my 2.8Ghz in 3d mark'01. So we both did a formatted and using the same drivers I kick his as$ even with his score higher than what he had.

Well where should i start?

Firstly Gruffy those scores seem to be on par for 5700, regardless of whether you have a 3ghz CPU or not, if i recall correctly to break 12k+ you'd hafta overclock it. If the GB of ram is in dual chan, then i would've expected a better mark but all in all its on par.

Iceblade, though CPU,FSB and RAM play a bigger role in 3d mark 01' than in 03, it doesn't have the deciding amount in the score! The majority of the score is still derived from the GPU but it is not GPU-dependent, i hope u understand that. So running a 3ghz p4 with a 5700 will get you 12k, however running a 2500+ with a 9800pro will get you 16k in 3dmark 01 even though the CPU's differ greatly.

Advanced, the CPU, FSB and RAM speeds play a quite a role in 3dmark 01' especially when you overclock, a bigger memory bandwidth gives 3dmark 01' quite a boost in the score! I know i've overclocked, however a GFX overclock also gives a kick as well. I suggest you read up on the finer points of 3dmark before misinforming others!

I heard some where ( can't remember) that one way of checking to see if a 9800se can be softmodded, is by a certain make of ram that's placed on them :?:

@Advanced
It could be that your card is overheating when you OC. I also had the same problem when OC'ing but it was solved when I replaced the standard cooling with the Thermaltake cooling kit

OK then ADV4NCED I got those scores buy

1.Is you card the 256bit one with samung memory

2. Downloading the omega drivers from http://www.omegadrivers.net/

3. Get decent cooling for your card. I can't keep mine OC yet because of the cooling. But I can still use the drivers

3. Using ATi tool that should have installed with the omega drivers clock your card to 420/350.

:!: Warning: I went staight to those clocks sucesfully but I would stongly surgest you wait for one of our overclockers like Mr Bean to help you out with that part

Fishzn: sorry bout my mistake, but that was my opinion.

garp:
1. Yep its 256Bit, samsung memory
2. I currently am using Omega drivers - they are the latest Beta drivers from the Omega site.
3. What cooling do you guys suggest I get?
4. I have ATI Tool installed, but havent yet run Max Clocks... will do sumtime!

Q: You installed the Omega Soft-mod drivers right? Or did you Flash/soft-mod your card by downloading a different bios?

Oh ya, Garp, do you have normal plain Stock cooling?? My card seems to get pretty hot and it isnt OCed.

Again, what cooling works well and isnt too expensive??
