<BR>
<BR>What do you guys think of digital cameras?
<BR>
<BR>Eeeerrr....I dont know if I´m in the right forum here but, there is no specific forum for this so I just guessed. Apologies if anyone is offended.

<BR>They definately have their place. Mine is a reasonable substitute for a "real camera", but it has no optical zoom <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_cry.gif">

I presume therefore that you mean to say they are not "real cameras"?
<BR>
<BR>Mine has 3x optical zoom and 4x digital for a grand total of 12x. Been playing with it over the long weekend. Even with the digital zoom it gives surprisingly good pics. <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_cool.gif">
<BR>
<BR>It also has 5.0 mega pixels, and yours?

You´ll notice that there is a picture quality setting, which changes........da-da-da-da.....
<BR>The picture quality!!! - This does however make each picture very memory hungry! My camera (FujiFilm something) has 16mb card, and on the lowest quality it holds over 100 pics, while on the highest it holds only 24. I would recommend using only the highest quality, as it gives a much better picture (no noticable pixles). But it´s a trade off between pic qualitly and the number of pics!

I also have a fujifilm digital camera, it´s a finepix - don´t know the exact model number. I´d definately recommend taking pics at high detail and high res - it´s just so much better than the low quality pics.

<BR>I love playing around with photos and making jokes of my friends, family and myself! The possibilities are endless! You should see my collection of Star Wars modified pics... hehe.
<BR>
<BR>I prefer a digital camera over a normal one anyday, although my camera goes through quite a lot of batteries - it uses penlights and the rechargables can only be used three or four times... <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_frown.gif">

I think its ok to take some low res pics of images you dont intend to print. Candid snapshots if you like. The only problem is that if you do find a gem among the rough you´re stuck with a low res image you cant make a decent print of.
<BR>
<BR>Perhaps middle of the range is a better option then. <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif">

Yeah, digital ´zoom´ you may as well just open it in Photoshop and increase the image size, since that´s all it does. Increases the size while decreasing the quality. It is such a nothing ´feature´, designed to sucker idiots.

I know the deal on digital zoom but, as I said if you´re taking low quality pics of stuff you dont intend to print anyway it doesn´t matter.
<BR>
<BR>For example: I took some pics of helicopters the other day and with the digital zoom I could get a much better picture of them than a black dot in the centre of a whole lot of blue.
<BR>
<BR>So dont knock the digtal zoom, it has its uses.
<BR>
<BR>I have found that I like snapping away at anything and everything with my digicam. Setting the camera to its lower quality settings allows me to take more pics. It also spares the battery for a bit longer.

Digital zoom will not give you a better picture. It just means you don´t have as much background stored on your camera. Digital zoom does _nothing_ to your picture other than crop, change image size and store.

Do you guys think there´s an advantage to having a digital <!-- BBCode Start --><B>video</B><!-- BBCode End --> camera, over a normal one? My folks have been thinking about buying one even since their normal one packed up, and I´m really excited about the prospect of playing and editing videos... the possibilities are endless!! <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif">

Guys believe me I know what digital zoom is all about and I did not base my purchase on the fact that it has 4x digital zoom. I bought the camera for its 5.0 mega pixels. Also because I have used Canon´s before and I know and understand the interface.
<BR>
<BR>I should tell you all that what blew me away was the effortless way in which windows XP pro found my camera and was able to download all the pictures including the short movies I had made. As soon as I plugged the USB cable in there was the camera with a nice uncomplicated wizard to aid me in my task.
<BR>
<BR>Needless to say I was ecstatic to not have to install any additional software onto my system. <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif"> <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif"> <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_cool.gif"> <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_cool.gif"> <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif"> <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif">

OK I read the post(s) on file extensions and beside the fact that my head hurts I dont see the connection here.....whats that....I feel a novel coming.

Hey OnlyOne. That question of yours about the video camera: My brother-in-law has just bought one (I think it´s the JVC 700X zoom - really cool!). If you want to edit videos on your PC, then you need an s-video input. These are found on some graphics cards (ie the Radeon All-In-One Wonder). The majority of graphics cards only come with an s-video output, which is no good to someone wanting to input data from video camera to a comp. Another option is to buy a TV - Card. i´m using the Pinnacle PCTV card, and it is perfect to get the videos to the computer, but I need another program (Adobe Premier) to edit the videos. The last option is to buya special cable that plugs into the camera, and then into the USB port (similar to the USB cables from a digital camera to the comp.). The only thing is with all these methods is the sound. You need an audio feed from the camera to the line-in jack. I havn´t tried copying movies via the USB port, as I use my TV-card to do it, and the audio isn´t a problem at all (using the tv viewing program, PCVision, makes it real easy!!)
<BR>
<BR>Anyways, hope I shead some valuable light. Good Luck! <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif">
