Are these scores believable?

Post by Azgard »

I gave two of my friends SuperPi a while ago and the scores they told me I dunno if I should believe or not...

The one has a P4 2.8C and the other a P4 2.8E. They both using 1Gb of DDR400 RAM.

They both told me they got 41sec for 1mb Super Pi, and one said he was playing music in Winamp while he ran the SuperPi.

Is this believable??

Yes it is. Your score can be 35sec if you tweak or format or something.
Where can I get the Program?

The thing is both my friends system are completely stock, nothing tweaked or tuned...

You can get below 30 seconds even. Some guys at Planet Mars have managed 32seconds and are possibly gonna break that mark sometime soon.

Me?

At the moment I have no RAM at all. I'm using my familys PC that has 256mb of DDR333.

I'm getting my Kingmax Hardcore on Friday.

Why?

LOL, I'm sorry but theres no way that can be right, most PCs will take probably about an hour to do 32mb super pi.

You sure you don't mean 32kb or something.

I believe you that you choose that but there must be something wrong with it to give you that kind of a time.

The best Super Pi score in the world for 1mb is 20-something seconds that some Japanese guy got using Liquid Nitrogen I think.

That time can't be right.

LOL, yeah thats quite suspect. The best I am standing at now is 51sec with a 2800+ Barton, but it doesnt even compare with some of the times some guys with AMD 64s get (along with LINUX  )

Here's what my work pc does:

+ 000h 00m 00s [ 16K]
+ 000h 00m 02s [ 32K]
+ 000h 00m 02s [ 64K]
+ 000h 00m 05s [ 128K]
+ 000h 00m 13s [ 256K]
+ 000h 00m 33s [ 512K]
+ 000h 01m 16s [ 1M]

Not bad for something meant for MS Office and e-mail...

Just for comparison: (And to prove there is NO way you could get 33 seconds on a 32MB calc)

The best time on planetmars for 1MB is 31seconds - note this is for ONE MB not 32...

There is no way he could get 33 seconds in the 32 million calculation.
I have the highest known clocked Athlon64 in SA (2.75GHz) and my 1 million score is 31 seconds:

I never saved my 32 million calculation time, but it is somewhere between 20 - 30 minutes with CPU at 2.4 GHz

I think my OC was unstable or the progam was buggie for me.

Or its because I ran other benchies

P4 :( not until they get faster where it counts ie games :P

But yes a highly clocked P4 can produce some very good super PI scores. I had a 2.4A Prescott (the 533 FSB one) and it did 39 seconds at 3.3 GHz, which is very good considering it usually takes 3.6 GHz for a Northwood to crack 39 seconds.

Notice I said I HAD one. Eina ... way too hot for me. 8O And it was not only the CPU ... the area around the CPU socket as well (mosfets) was extremely hot. Around 70'C !!! Put a fan on the mosfet area and it dropped to 38'C - ouch. A newer Athlon64 with a good fan can idle at around 23'C ... much better :P
