try university ftp´s. they´re usually fast.

The only problem is that there are usually a few months out of date !
I download from international mirrors on my work 128k line and get speeds that match that of south african ftp sites.
Best thing is to try all the mirrors to find one that works best for you.

For instance, in JHB, a company called Tangent has a load of distributions, including the latest Mandrake, at about R35 per CD.
